On-site presence, support, education, and collaboration with physicians, non-physician clinicians, and coding professionals regarding documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, and relevant quality and performance improvement opportunities. The Clinical Documentation Specialist will act as a liaison between the CMO; Health Information Management Department Inpatient Coders, Quality Officers, Coding Management and the Physician.
Educational Skills Required (Degree(s), Certification(s), License, etc.)
- Current New Jersey Licensed Registered Nurse
- BSN degree
- CCDS certification (preferred)
Work Experience Required
- Must read, write and speak English.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Passing grade on Nuance Clinical Competency Exam
- Minimum 2 years RN acute care; med surg; critical care or ED hospital experience
- Advanced understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication and organizational skills
- Must maintain a professional demeanor
- Must display a proven analytical capability
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Able to quickly learn new concepts and software
Preferred:
- Prior experience in Clinical Documentation review
- Understanding of ICD-10-CM coding requirements
- Experience in a supervisory role
- Adult acute care experience in med/surg, critical care, emergency, or PACU
