The Clinical Dietitian, a registered and licensed dietitian, coordinates all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling of hospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of settings. Perform duties in support of and in compliance with performance improvement plans, TJC, and other licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
a. Provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with the patient's medical goals.
b. Evaluate, interpret, monitor and document the nutritional status and nutritional needs of hospitalized patients and out patients using established standards of care and practice guidelines.
c. Identify and provide age-specific nutrition counseling to meet the cultural needs of the patients and their families.
d. Develop, review, update and implement educational materials to meet the needs of patients and professionals.
e. Write order for diet, supplement, enteral/parenteral nutrition and laboratory data per hospital policy.
f. Maintain registered dietitian status including continuing professional education and is competent in nutrition assessment, planning of care on an interdisciplinary basis and is knowledgeable in nutrition therapy and in teaching.
g. Demonstrates competency by thorough communications and documentation in patient's record.
h. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
- Kansas Dietitian License or eligible for licensure in the State of Kansas.
- Current BLS certification.
- For designated departments:
- Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration.
- Certified Diabetics Education completed within one year of employment.
Preferred:
- Two years experience in an oncology setting.
- Experience with outpatient counseling and community education.
- Completed an approved internship in nutrition therapy.
