Adult Team-Peer Support

About the Team

Alaska Behavioral Health provides comprehensive therapy services for adults experiencing mild, moderate, and severe mental illness. Our services include crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment and treatment, case management in conjunction with therapeutic services, individual and group therapy (including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy), psycho-social rehabilitation services, peer support, and vocational services. Under the supervision of the designated Manager, the Clinical Associate III works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing case management and other recovery-focused services to increase wellness, opportunity of independence, and satisfaction of receipt at the Alaska Behavioral Health (AKBH) Adult Day Center, and DOL Apprentice Program. All services provided at the AKBH Gambell Building are in accordance with creating a warm and safe space to build recovery in alignment with interactions and communications consistent with the organization’s mission, goals, and chosen values.

What You’ll Do

  • Works collaterally with clinical team members and Adult Day Center and DOL Peer Apprentice Program participants within their service plan.
  • Provides crisis intervention to clients presenting with critical or dangerous problems by resolving and stabilizing those emergency situations. Identifies clients who may need a higher level of care and assists with facilitating appropriate placement.
  • Develops therapeutic relationships with ongoing clients to provide an environment where clients can make appropriate changes and be successful in the environment of their choosing.
  • Participates in the termination process and discharge planning in conjunction with the treatment team to enhance client's ability to retain treatment changes, use community social supports, treatment professionals, and/or continue to work on therapeutic change.
  • Provide necessary client information to other agencies or health care providers, (psychiatrist, mental health professionals or agencies, schools, courts, hospitals, etc.) to coordinate services to identified clients.
  • Provides training groups in alignment with DOL Peer Apprentice Program.

  • Pay Range is $47,373 to $61,307 depending on experience. Eligible for annual incentive opportunities up to 10% of your annual salary

  • Clinicians participate in regular individual and group supervision and are provided with additional training opportunities as part of our professional development plan.
  • AKBH offers generous benefits including two healthcare options for employees and their dependent children, 401k with immediate vesting and up to 5% match, 3% automatically contributed by AKBH, and 3 weeks of PTO for the first year, and 6 weeks of PTO after the first year, as well as 10 paid holidays.
  • AKBH consistently provides both individual and group clinical licensure supervision for our behavioral health providers who are working towards their post-master's and post-doctoral clinical licenses. The most common licenses for therapists in Alaska are Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Both require 100 hours of clinical supervision. Market rates for licensure clinical supervision are $150-$200 and hour. At 100 hours, that is a $15,000 to $20,000 value – and our staff receive it as a free benefit.

What We Need from You

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a human-services field such as social work, psychology, etc. Five years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Certification Requirement: DBH Approved Intro to Peer Support 37.5 Hour Training within 90 days of hire ~ AND ~ ACBHC PSP II/III Certified within 180 days of hire.
  • Ability to assist and support the consumer in successfully living, learning, working, and socializing in the environment of their choice.
    1. Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
    2. Ability to handle crisis situations appropriately, utilizing sound judgment.
  • Knowledge of specialized community resources.
  • Ability to conceptualize and practice the administrative process of job duties; i.e., clinical records, billable hours, etc.
  • Ability to assess mental status changes.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and understand the English language over the phone or face-to-face.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands, both physically and mentally.
  • Ability to work with the chronically mentally ill.
  • Ability to access areas which may not be handicapped accessible.
