Job description

Duties: The non-negotiable annual salary for this position is $44,775.90 (NAGE Unit 1, Grade 13, Step 1)

Maintains various files and logs pertaining to the receipt, inventory and transfer of inmate property; Inventories incoming and outgoing inmate property using Inmate Management System (IMS) and other related logs; Assists the institution Property OIC, Treasurer and Grievance Coordinator in locating property and documentation to respond to inmate complaints regarding lost, damaged, or stolen property, including contraband mail; Handles written correspondence from inmates, public, staff and other state agencies; Answers telephone in Property Office and cover Administrative Reception areas whenever needed; Responsible for accurate filing and record keeping, to include IMS entries; Responsible for the wrapping, addressing and mailing of inmate property; Responsible for the logging, shelving and tracking of contraband and inmate property, and logging into the IMS Property Screen; Perform general clerical duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient with Microsoft Office software. Knowledge of Department of Correction policies and procedures. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work independently using personal initiative. Excellent organizational skills.

Comments:

This is a civil service position. The DOC urges bilingual applicants to apply. *Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must have no felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The Massachusetts Department of Correction shall not hire anyone who may have direct contact with offenders, who has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. The agency shall consider any incidents of sexual harassment in determining whether to hire anyone who may have contact with offenders or residents

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below: 
I. A diploma as evidence of graduation from the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience. * 
II. A diploma as evidence of graduation from a course other than the commercial or business course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school or possession of a Massachusetts high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for a maximum of eight months of the required experience. * 
III. A diploma for completion of a one year, full-time, or equivalent part-time,  program in a recognized,  non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for a maximum or one year of the required experience. * 
IV. A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time,  program in a recognized,  non-degree granting business or secretarial school above the high school level may be substituted for two years of the required experience.* 
* Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
