Classroom Assistant - Art

SUMMARY
A person in his position performs various complex work in an art studio/classroom setting. They develop strong and nurturing relationships with children and assist classroom teacher to provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment, ensuring that all supplies are available, ordered, prepped, and cleaned before and after school and in between each class period.
Position to begin with the 2023-2024 school year.
CLASSROOM SUPPORT

• Work directly with classroom teacher to keep art classes running smoothly;
• Make copies, laminate, organize curriculum paperwork;
• Work with children individually, in small and large groups as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Provide for children's safety, guidance, and educational development;
  • Assist the classroom teacher with the development and implementation of required curriculum and classroom activities;
  • Perform routine classroom tasks such as preparation and clean up;
  • Be aware of and follow all aspects of the Child Guidance Procedure.
• Support the classroom, as assigned, in the event of the Teacher's absence;
• Take inventory and order art supplies;
• Organize and clean art supplies;
• Refill and maintain supplies;
• Local pickup and delivery of supplies including clay (40 pounds boxes);
• Load and unload kiln.

COMMUNICATION AND DEBRIEFINGS

• Communicate and debrief with staff effectively;
  • Attend relevant meetings and training as assigned.
• Daily check-ins with teacher.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY

• Daily cleaning as required by individual centers both inside and outside;
• Follow safety regulations, policies, and procedures;
• Actively contribute towards promoting a safe workplace & environment.

MINOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• General clean-up and custodial services of art classroom and storage.
• Provide coverage for absence of Art Teacher as assigned.

REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Experience with art supplies such as painting, clay, glazes. Experience working with young children aged 5-13 years preferred.
Certification or Accreditation: CPR/First Aid Certification
Essential Skills: Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and basic computer knowledge. Able to organize and self-motivate.
Essential Mental Abilities: Must be organized, flexible and resolution oriented. Ability to multitask, make sound judgments and demonstrate appropriate role modeling. Ability to always maintain full and complete attention to children. Ability to work as a team member and to be self-directed.
Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to lift/carry up to 35 lbs. Ability to push/pull up to 35 lbs. Sufficient mobility and range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and twisting for up to 6 hours per day. Enough stamina to perform job duties at frequency required. Ability to react quickly to the physical actions of children.
EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT UPON:

REPORTS TO: Visual Art Teacher and Principal
