ASTORIA SCHOOL DISTRICT 1C JOB DESCRIPTION Astoria School District No. 1C is seeking applicants for the following position: JOB TITLE: Instructional Assistant - Self Contained Classroom - 6.5 hrs/day - Astoria Middle School REPORTS TO: Site administrator EVALUATED BY: Site administrator JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of an Instructional Assistant (IA) is to assist in the supervision and instruction of special needs students under the supervision of a certificated teacher in a special education classroom and/or as part of a pullout program; observing and documenting student progress; implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs); providing personal hygiene and medical support for students and providing clerical support to the teacher. QUALIFICATIONS OF THE POSITION:High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of EducationMust be 18 years of ageJob related experience is preferredMust be able to pass a background checkPerform physical requirements which may include:Moderate degree of physical staminaFrequent standing, walking, bendingOccasional lifting up to 50 lbsPhysically restraining a student as needed (OIS Certification provided), per building need.Possible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using restrooms and tending to illness or injury (Blood Borne Pathogen training provided)ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ability to maintain the confidentiality of students and their recordsMaintains instructional materials and/or student files/records (e.g.

collects and maintains student data, adapting instructional materials, student files, checking papers, attendance, audiovisual equipment, set up projects, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items and/or providing reliable informationAbility to assist students with personal hygiene tasks (diapering, for example)Ability to assist students with medical procedures (tube feeding, diabetic seizures) that could result in exposure to bodily fluidsResponds to emergencies (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concernsAbility to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a part of an instructional teamAbility to work effectively in an environment that can be both physically and emotionally fatiguingAttends meetings and in-service presentations as requested or required. Required training could include; Oregon Intervention System, medical procedures, health and safety training, First Aid, and CPRConfers with teachers (special education and/or mainstream teacher) on a regular basis for the purpose of assisting in evaluating special education student progress and/or implementing IEP objectivesInstruction of special education students (e.g.
