MISSION:
It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.
JOB PURPOSE:
Serves as Classification and Compensation Specialist for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice within the Office of Human Resources. Assists in ensuring all actions are received and processed promptly.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Retrieves pay actions and posting requests from the HR portal and disburses to appropriate Class and Comp personnel.
Updates HR portal to track receipt of posting requests and hiring packets.
Includes notes to ensure management is aware of any delays or updates.
Drafts correspondences to the appropriate personnel regarding pay, location, and job class code changes.
Distributes final correspondence to the appropriate personnel to notify them of approval/disapproval.
Assists in reviewing and analyzing posting requests, and internal pay actions in accordance with State Human Resources Rules and Regulations and Departmental Policies and Guidelines.
Ensures that paperwork is complete, accurate, and conforms to all Agency policies and procedures.
Compiles raw data into presentation form weekly for both internal and external customers.
Provides various data reports as needed to support the human resources department in conjunction with the strategic direction of the agency.
Updates internal pay band to reflect changes i.e., internal titles, agency minimums, and job class codes.
Assists with special projects and other assignments as assigned and performs other related duties.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma and administrative experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of human resource management.
Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the assigned program area(s) and of agency policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to make and communicate decisions.
Ability to analyze data and present ideas effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Under general supervision works independently; however, guidance will be provided.
Discretion is necessary due to the confidentiality of personnel files and transactions.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
