Overview
The CDL Instructor will be responsible for the following duties: schedule, coordinate, and facilitate training sessions that focus on the principles, techniques, safety, and procedures related to employees seeking to obtain a Class A CDL. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial driving practices, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Conduct engaging classroom sessions to educate employees on the theoretical aspects (traffic laws, safety regulations, vehicle maintenance) of commercial driving.
- Provide hand-on training for students to develop practical skills in operating Class A vehicles including pre-trip inspection procedures and safe driving practices.
- Tailor courses by developing modifications to meet participant needs and training goals.
- Observe and evaluate employees' work to determine progress, provide feedback and make suggestions for improvement.
- Effectively communicate with employees, addressing questions and concerns related to the training program.
- Stay updated on changes in commercial driving regulations and industry best practices.
- Manage group of employees safely and efficiently
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
- CDL Instructor certification
- DOT Physical Exam Certification
- Medic First Aid Certification
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as behind-the-wheel commercial motor vehicle instructor
- Highly organized person and can show planning and processes to support daily work
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products - Outlook, Excel, Word, etc with an emphasis on PowerPoint.
- Positive people skills and pleasant demeanor
- Punctual & dependable
- 50+% Travel within the region is expected.
