The City of Chandler Police Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Civilian Background Investigator. This non-exempt position is funding-based, temporary, full-time, with limited benefits and will serve at the discretion of the department director. The position is scheduled to work a day-shift, 4/10 schedule.

The City of Chandler Police Department, consisting of 362 sworn officers and 177 civilians, serves a growing population of close to 287,945 residents. The organization is divided into three main divisions, one bureau, and many sections/units. The Patrol Operations Division consisting of three precincts, 1) Main Station - Downtown & North Chandler, 2) Desert Breeze - West Chandler, and 3) Chandler Heights - South Chandler, work in concert with the Criminal Investigations Division, Operational Support Division, and Professional Services Division to meet the needs of the community. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone with experience performing employment background screenings or relative investigative work. Law enforcement and/or Human Resources/Personnel experience conducting interviews and background checks is desired.

Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- At least 2-years’ experience performing employment background screening or relevant investigative work;
- Ability to obtain Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (ACJIS) Terminal Operator certification within 30 days of hire, and;
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Experience working in law enforcement environment; conducting investigative background interviews;
- Experience in Personnel/Human Resources conducting interviews and background checks.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a liaison between Chandler Police Department and Human Resources to fill department vacancies by initiating recruitment/testing.
- Conducts formal background interviews/investigations on sworn and civilian personnel.
- Coordinates and schedules polygraph, psychological, drug and medical exams.
- Analyzes sensitive and confidential background findings.
- Audits applicant files; ensures completeness.
- Coordinates physical testing and oral interviews for sworn applicants.

The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
