Job Description

Description

Your role at GEI.

GEI’s Water Resources practice is growing and we are seeking an entry level Water Resources Engineer to join our Michigan team in either the Marquette, Traverse City, Plymouth, or Lansing offices. Candidate will be part of a connected team of GEI H&H professionals across the country. This individual will contribute to planning and implementation of water resource projects in a variety of natural and urban settings.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Execute technical projects and assignments in coordination with project managers and support staff. Example projects include dam removals, river restoration, dam rehabilitation, flood control, stormwater management planning and design.
  • Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients;
  • Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents and project schedules.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
  • Self-motivated. The candidate will have the confidence and motivation to independently research, determine and calculate answers that lead to independent decisions on various work/client related issues. The candidate is not necessarily expected to act as the Engineer of Record on projects but will interact and report to engineers who act in that capacity.
  • The ideal candidate will have some experience with H/H modeling, stormwater BMP and river restoration planning, design and monitoring. Construction oversight/field engineering experience with a focus on stormwater management and soil erosion controls is desirable.
  • Computer modeling experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with USEPA SWMM and HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D versions), but other similar software experience is likely sufficient.
  • GIS experience. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of GIS tools, including spatial analysis tools and the ability to create, analyze and convert topographic and bathymetric surfaces within and export out of GIS.
  • CAD experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, with some ability to analyze/convert surfaces, particularly to support H/H modeling program demands.
  • Working knowledge of Michigan DEQ, Federal and Local regulatory and permitting requirements is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-5 years of professional experience demonstrating skills mentioned above;
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources related field, M.S. considered a plus.
  • Registered Michigan Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in four (4) years.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well in a team atmosphere or on individual assignments.
  • Ability to travel on temporary work assignments.
