WATER PRACTICE
Michael Baker International's Water Group provides innovative consulting, planning, and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.
WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker is actively seeking a Drainage/Water Resources Engineer who will assist Project Managers with tasks including data review, site review, data analysis, civil engineering planning and design. The Water Resources Engineer will prepare hydrological & hydraulic calculations and modeling, assist with preparing technical reports, technical exhibits, and design drawings.
This role will expose the engineer to a wide range of interesting applications under the supervision of experts and industry leaders in Water Resource Engineering. Responsibilities will include:
  • Prepare and review design calculations for sewer, grading, and stormwater drainage infrastructure.
  • Provide input to projects during the conceptual and planning stages.
  • Developing hydrologic and hydraulic models, to preparing plans, specifications and estimates and performing data collection and field work.
  • Develop hydrologic and 1-D, unsteady and 2-D hydraulic models.
  • Analyze and design hydraulic structures and subsurface flow systems.
  • Prepare maps and technical reports.
  • Develop drawings and specifications for design projects.
  • Coordinate changes to drawings and specifications with project team members.
  • Develop cost estimates and conduct quantity takeoffs for design projects.
  • Provide technical review support for other projects to support drainage and water resources design discipline.
  • Assist in the development of junior staff.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • 4-6 years of Water Resources Engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other engineering discipline with water Resources Engineering experience, Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an engineering project team including staff development.
  • Professional Engineering license in the state of Michigan or the ability to obtain within six months.
  • Proficient in MicroStation ORD, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in Hydraulic Modeling software such as HydroCAD, XP-SWMM, and/or HEC-RAS. 2D modeling experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Experience with GIS and other engineering software is a plus.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license
  • Must demonstrate excellent speaking, oral and written communication skills.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $75,817 to $104,262. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
