DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our transportation team in either our Fairbanks or Anchorage offices. This position supports the civil transportation department with technical duties related to a variety of projects including highways, airports, building sites, and oil and gas infrastructure. The position is designed to increase knowledge of the Civil Engineering profession under direct supervision and mentorship. We also offer opportunities for field work experience in design data collection and construction contract administration.

 

As a part of our Civil Engineering team, the Transportation Intern will assist with tasks including data review, site review, field documentation, data collection, data organization, data analysis, preparation of technical reports and Civil Engineering planning and design. 

 

Main Job Responsibilities:

Assist professionals with completing tasks to design and develop plans, specifications, and estimates for civil transportation, aviation, and/or site engineering development projects with use of AutoCAD/Civil 3D and ArcGIS software.

Assist with technical related tasks such as studies, design analysis, construction documents, drawings, maps, reports, and supporting documentation.

Complete simple to moderate calculations such as quantities and construction cost estimates

Conduct occasional site visits with a mentor, potentially to remote locations (occasional to moderate travel may be required).

Perform data collection, input, verification and manipulation.

Other duties as assigned.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • GED or High School Diploma and pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of completed college-level coursework relevant to working in the transportation engineering field; Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong degree of self-initiative and desire to learn. 
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or ArcGIS software a plus.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $24.00-28.00 hourly. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
