Civil Engineer Intern/Transportation- Summer 2024

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern/Transportation for Summer 2024 in our Harrisburg, PA office to support our Traffic and ITS department on a variety of local and statewide transportation projects. The selected individual will assist with technical tasks on projects, working alongside Professional Engineers, Project Managers, and other design and construction professionals in a team environment. They will learn the profession as duties are performed.

It is expected that this position will report daily to the Harrisburg, PA office located at 4431 North Front Street, 2nd Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17110, but specific intermittent schedule and location exceptions are available depending on the circumstances. No housing subsidy will be provided.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Working as a team member within the Traffic and ITS department
• Performing basic to moderate design and calculations
• Preparing basic reports
• Assisting with data collection, input, verification, and manipulation
• Performing CADD drafting
• Conducting field-oriented assignments

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelors' Degree in Civil Engineering at an accredited University or College; in good academic standing; minimum of 2 years of coursework completed.
• Strong analytical, conceptual, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.
• Ability to self-motivate and productively work with intermittent supervision.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office; PDF manipulation (Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam); working knowledge of CADD (MicroStation); and desire to develop programming skills is preferred.
• Valid U.S. driver's license.

COMPENSATION 

The compensation range for this position is $18.00-$23.00 per hour in Harrisburg, PA and will be dependent on the incoming candidate's experience.

• As a part-time/temporary employee you will be eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan upon completion of 1,000 hours of service during (i) the 12-month period beginning on your date of hire or (ii) any plan year beginning after your date of hire.
• Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) your working hours will be tracked for benefit eligibility status, and you may become eligible for Michael Baker International Benefits in the future.
