The Rancho Cordova, California office of GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) is seeking an Engineer with a background in civil or geotechnical engineering. Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing engineering planning, design, and construction management efforts related to water resources projects including pipelines, canals, pump stations, dams, spillways, levees, water storage, and water recharge.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Participate in project planning and conceptualization discussions.
- Develop detailed design plans and specifications for Civil Engineering projects.
- Collaborate with other team members, including structural engineers, and surveyors, to ensure design coherence.
- Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed design drawings and plans.
- Ensure accuracy and adherence to industry standards in all design documentation.
- Support the development of decision-making documents such as feasibility studies and cost estimates, design and procurement documents such as engineering drawings and specification packages, and tools for contractor bid evaluation and oversight.
- Evaluate and analyze data and prepare technical reports, letters and memorandum.
- Support site investigations and site assessments and technical oversight of subcontractors.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, answering questions and resolving design-related issues that may arise.
- Review construction plans and reports to ensure they align with the original design intent.
- Assist in preparation of proposals to provide professional services and assist in preparation of presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.
- Support Project Managers by tracking budgets, client communications, and deliverables.
- Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering; M.S. is a plus.
- E.I.T. or P.E. is a plus
- 3-8 years of previous professional experience in civil/geotechnical and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with engineering design processes.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Experience with spatial analysis and visualization software such as CAD, Civil 3D, and GIS.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
- 40 hr. HAZWOPER is a plus.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
