The City of Palo Alto Children's Theatre is seeking a talented part-time Scenic Carpenter (Arts & Science Professional I - H) to help us ignite imaginations and foster creativity year-round. From captivating main stage productions to engaging outreach initiatives and exciting summer camp productions, you'll play a crucial role in crafting unforgettable moments for children of all ages.
About Us:
Palo Alto Children's Theatre is dedicated to fostering youth's intellectual, artistic, and personal growth through multi-arts education and exceptional theatre experiences. We prioritize both process and product, aiming to create outstanding theatre for young audiences while nurturing critical thinking, cooperation, and aesthetic sensitivity. Our comprehensive programs cater to youth aged 3 through high school, offering onsite classes, camps, productions, and educational outreach initiatives.
Schedule:
Scheduled to work an average of 20 hours per week. Primarily, work during weekday mornings and afternoons, with occasional evening and weekend shifts as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with our Production Manager and fellow Carpenters to construct scenic elements safely and efficiently.
- Interpret technical drawings for set construction.
- Utilize power tools such as screw guns, table saws, circular saws, and pneumatic staplers.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in construction, rehearsal, and performance areas.
- Assist with theatrical rigging and basic scenic painting.
- Address technical issues during productions.
- Support onsite and off-site Children's Theatre events, potentially overseeing youth participants.
- Occasionally assist with lighting and sound tasks.
- Embody teamwork, punctuality, and professionalism, adapting to the unique demands of each production.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in technical theatre or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in common theatre construction methods.
- Valid CA Driver's license.
- Comfortable working at heights and capable of lifting 50 pounds.
