GuidePost Direct Care staff are responsible for providing care and support to children with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be patient, compassionate, and dedicated to improving the quality of life for those under their care. They will aid with daily living activities, such as feeding, bathing, dressing, and grooming. They will also implement programs and activities designed to promote socialization, communication, and behavioral management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to children with developmental disabilities, including assistance with daily living activities and personal hygiene
- Implement individualized care plans and behavior management plans, as directed by supervisors
- Plan and facilitate activities designed to promote socialization, communication, and behavioral management
- Monitor and document behaviors and progress of children and report any changes or concerns to supervisors
- Administer medications and treatments, as directed by supervisors or healthcare professionals
- Collaborate with other staff members and healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to each child
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for the children in their care
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required
- Maintain the daily schedule and provide structure
- Provide or arrange transportation when needed
- Prepare regular and nutritious meals, according to provided menu
- Perform routine housekeeping and deep cleaning
- Document youth self-administration of medications
- Documentation of daily activities, incidents and accidents, and maintenance requests
- Knowledge of policy and procedures
- Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures
- Knowledge and ability to comply with policy and procedures for safety including infection control procedures, applications of universal precautions for blood-borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment, and handling of hazardous materials
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience working with children with developmental disabilities preferred
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Must pass an enhanced criminal background check and drug screening
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, sit, and kneel for extended periods of time
- Ability to perform physical activities such as pushing wheelchairs and bending to assist with personal care
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations
