Hourly Wage:
New Hire: $12.33 • 90 days: $12.98 • 1 year: $13.67 • 2 years: $14.38 • 3 years: $15.12
About Child Care Worker:
Attends to the needs of children ages 2-5 and oversees their play in classrooms at Linn County Child Development Center. Provides careful supervision to children on the playground to assure their safety. Child Care Workers are not assigned to any single classroom on an on-going basis, but routinely move between classrooms as needed to maintain adult-child ratios.
Child Care Workers report to the Program Supervisor or Director for supervision. Child Care Workers take direction for program activities from regularly-assigned classroom staff who will be present with them. Child Care Workers know the County's Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County's Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
Essential Functions
  • Performs a variety of tasks to help regularly-assigned classroom staff maintain daily routines, including, but not limited to:
  • Helping with children's meal service (either in classroom or kitchen area).
  • Assisting children with toileting which may involve general group supervision of bathroom or the changing of an individual child's diaper.
  • Overseeing children at naptime or supervising non-napping children in a separate area.
  • Picking up/cleaning up after a classroom activity concludes.
  • Assisting regularly-assigned classroom staff regularly-assigned classroom staff in situations of high child aggression or injury (while still responding to immediate needs and assuring child safety).
  • Assisting regularly-assigned classroom staff regularly-assigned classroom staff in handling program-related questions from parents (with Early Childhood Teachers taking a lead role in this area).
  • Attends in-service training as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the "Voice of the Customer "and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some paid experience in a licensed childcare setting, childcare food service or other commercial food service is desirable, but not required.
  • Must meet requirements of licensing regulations including good health evidenced by a pre-employment physical and every three (3) years thereafter; free of conviction by any law of any state of mistreatment of a child or violence against a person; and no record of substantiated child abuse, sexual, physical or neglect.
  • Ability to interact positively and calmly with young children.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with co-workers, supervisors and program participants (children and parents).
  • Able to lift and move fifty (50) pounds on a regular basis.
Special Necessary Requirements:
Must meet basic state requirements to be included in the program's adult-child ratio, including First Aid and Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certifications. Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times.
