The Child Welfare Advocate will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support, advocacy, and assistance to children and families affected by crime within our behavioral health agency. This role requires a passionate individual who is dedicated to promoting the well-being and safety of vulnerable children, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and upholding the rights and needs of victims of crime.
Child Welfare Advocate Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and advocacy to children and families impacted by crime, ensuring their immediate needs are met while fostering a safe and empowering environment.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, case managers, law enforcement, and legal representatives, to ensure coordinated care and comprehensive services for child victims.
- Conduct thorough assessments of children's emotional, psychological, and physical well-being, identifying trauma and developing tailored intervention plans.
- Deliver trauma-informed services and evidence-based interventions to address the unique needs of child victims and their families.
- Assist families in navigating legal processes, including court appearances, protective orders, and victim compensation claims.
- Facilitate support groups and educational workshops to empower child victims and caregivers with knowledge and coping strategies.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of available community resources and services for children and families affected by crime.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, documenting interventions, progress, and outcomes in accordance with grant guidelines.
- Collaborate with partner agencies and organizations to enhance community response to child victims and to identify potential gaps in services.
- Contribute to grant reporting requirements by providing accurate and timely data and information.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and regulations related to Child Welfare, victim services, and confidentiality.
- Proficient in maintaining organized and accurate case documentation.
- Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and a commitment to promoting inclusivity and equity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.
- H.A.S. requires all staff to work onsite.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in advocating for children and families within the realm of Child Welfare and victim services.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and knowledge of evidence-based interventions for child victims.
