Description

Level I: $1,312.04 - $1,570.68
Level II: $1,402.69 - $1,680.87
Applies Federal, State and local codes, procedures, and rules to assist Child Support Specialists in securing current and delinquent Child Support payments; and performs related work as required.
Working under close supervision, Child Support Assistant I is the entry/trainee level in the Child support Assistant class series. Employees in this class receive in-service training, and are given detailed instructions in the performance of routine duties related to assisting Child Support Specialists in securing delinquent Child Support payments. As requisite skills and knowledge are developed, greater independence and the full scope of responsibility are exercised. Employees are expected to promote to Child Support Assistant II after one year of satisfactory performance at the trainee level.
This classification is a Merit System Services (MSS) position with the job requirements subject to change per CalHR.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
  • Assists Child Support Specialists in processing cases and preparing cases for court action according to established routine and procedures.
  • Operates and uses an automated system to input and extract information and generate reports and documents.
  • Develops, organizes and distributes documents for Child Support cases.
  • Establishes and maintains Child Support files.
  • Interviews individuals to obtain pertinent information related to Child Support cases.
  • Responds to general inquiries from the public.
  • Contacts and retrieves relevant information from other jurisdictions.
  • Processes and distributes incoming correspondence, redirecting complex mail and/or transactions to other staff.
  • Assists with the location of parents and the establishment of parent's support capability.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Level I
Experience: One (1) year of full-time general clerical experience.
Level II
Experience: One (1) year of fill-time experience performing duties comparable to a Child Support Assistant I in a state or local government agency.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license. All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Selection Process:

Condition of Employment:

Paid annual leave:
Vacation:
1-5 years of continuous service: 10 working days per year; 6-10 years of continuous service: 15 working days per year; 11-15 years of continuous service: 20 working days per year; 16 years or higher of continuous service: 25 working days per year. Note - Vacation will be available for use after completion of six (6) months of continuous employment.
Sick Leave:
1 day of sick leave with pay for each month of service from the date of employment. Note - Sick leave may be used upon accrual.
Holidays:
13 working days each year.
Floating Holidays:
3 working days each fiscal year. Note - Floating Holidays may be used upon accrual.
Retirement:
The County is a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) integrated with Social Security.
Group Insurance:
The County pays a portion of the employee's group health, dental, and life insurance premiums with dependent health and dental care benefits available at group rates.

Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan:
