The Child Life fellowship is a 12-month, grant-funded position to support the Child Life team with clinical needs. It allows new graduates to gain a year of paid experience before an entry-level role in the field. Under the supervision of the Child Life Director, the fellow will gain advanced knowledge and skills of the Child Life profession through implementation and coordination of therapeutic programming and supportive services to meet the emotional, developmental and social needs of hospitalized children.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life, child development or a related field required.
- Master's degree in Child Life, child development or a related field preferred.
- Minimum qualifications:
- Complete 600-hour Child Life internship preferred.
- Eligibility to sit for the ACLP national certification exam and successfully pass the exam within one year of hire.
- Internship-eligible applicants may be considered (dependent on ACLP eligibility assessment).
- Knowledge of child growth and development, family systems, Child Life theory and how to apply theory to practice.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnoses and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic charting to include assessment, goals and intervention.
- Must have good interpersonal communication skills to develop effective working relationships with patients, families and multidisciplinary hospital teams.
