POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is funded by a subgrant awarded to Uniting Three Fires Against Violence (UTFAV) by the Michigan Division of Victim Services (DVS).
The Child and Youth Trafficking Project Director determines, develops, coordinates, and administers culturally sensitive technical assistance to address and respond to the needs related to Child and Youth Trafficking of Native children within and outside of Tribal communities across Michigan.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and distributes, with assistance from the Executive Director, program materials, forms, reports, newsletters, training materials, etc;
Collects and compiles project data and documentation, and assists in the completion of programmatic grant reports;
Organizes and coordinates the logistics of project activities including but not limited to meetings, trainings, events, strategic planning, etc;
Works with Tribes, tribal programs, and other associated professionals to identify training, technical assistance, and resource materials needed to appropriately respond to Child and Youth Trafficking.
Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the provision of services in Native American communities;
Participates in the discussion with other staff the implementation of the program goals, objectives and activities. Discussions may include the sharing of new ideas and addressing barriers and/or challenges;
Submits, on a timely basis, all reports and written monthly program activity reports to the Executive Director; and
All other activities, tasks and duties that may be assigned for the good of the project and organization.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Utilizes and incorporates professional standards and guidelines into program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Must be able to function with minimal supervision.
Responsible for advanced knowledge of domestic and sexual violence, its impact including historical and cultural impact on individuals and communities, and appropriate coordinated culturally honoring/trauma informed responses.
CONTACTS:
Has contact with Tribal members, Tribal Leadership, Tribal Program Directors, Tribal Division Directors, a variety of Tribal and non-Tribal community agencies, and the community at large, either in person or by telephone.
Has contact with staff from the Division of Victim Services, within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
WORKING CONDITION/SAFETY HAZARDS:
Usually in office environment, but provides services within Tribal buildings and community sites across the State of Michigan. Significant travel to other Tribal locations in sometimes unpredictable weather conditions. Travel outside of State of Michigan may be required as well. Some evening and weekend work may be required with job responsibilities and travel. Moderate walking, bending, lifting, and reaching duties.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
B.A. of B.S. in related field and 5 years relevant work experience (equivalencies will be considered);
Experience working in anti-violence field preferred;
Must have an understanding of the dynamics of Tribal communities and experience working with Native people;
Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills and ability to work independently, with little supervision, but also as part of the UTFAV team;
Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’ license, and independently travel within the state of Michigan and nationally as may be required;
