Job description

The Department of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor for the role of Division Head in the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics. The Division Head, reporting to the Chair of the Department as well as the Chief Medical Officer, will apply a strong and proven commitment to excellence in delivery of care, research, education, and advocacy. With responsibility for all clinical, educational, research, and operational functioning within the division, the Head will oversee budgeting, staff management, patient services, facilities maintenance, and other functions relevant to effective division management.

The Division Head in the Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics is responsible for all patient care, research, education, advocacy and administrative aspects of the division's work. As the leader of the division, the Division Head serves in a critical role in setting and executing upon the division's strategic imperatives in the clinical, research, education and advocacy domains to work toward identifying and preventing the abuse of children. The individual in this role will guide the division as clinical needs change and the potential for continued or expanded partnerships with DCFS emerge. This individual will serve as the leader for all research activities and will be responsible for growing the division's research profile. Individuals with accomplishments in Child Abuse Pediatrics or maltreatment research, care delivery science or other aligned areas of medical social science research are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have an interest in faculty and fellow mentorship, as a key responsibility is to support division members’ career growth and development. The Division Head will assure the division’s faculty participate in the educational programs of the department as well as its own training programs. The Division Head will support a culture of educational excellence. This individual will act as the representative in interactions with Department leadership, hospital administration, external groups and donors. The individual in this role is responsible for oversight of divisional operational, philanthropic and grant funding in partnership with the Division Administrator. Qualified candidates will possess outstanding clinical and teaching skills. Candidates for the position will be board-certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics. Salary is commensurate with rank and experience. The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled.

The Division Head will join a well-established and expanding Protective Services Team. The Protective Service Team includes three Child Abuse pediatricians, one pediatrician with expertise in Child Abuse Pediatrics, four Child Abuse Pediatrics fellows, a research director, research coordinators/associates, administrative staff members, and a group of experienced social workers who provide on-site consultation 24/7. The team evaluates approximately 500 children per year in the inpatient and outpatient settings. In addition, the team physicians participate in a unique outpatient clinic, the Forensic Assessment for Immigration Relief (FAIR) Clinic. The FAIR Clinic conducts medical and mental health evaluations of children seeking asylum in the United States.

Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Lurie Children's Hospital) is a free-standing children’s hospital located just off the magnificent mile and Lake Michigan, and adjacent to the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine campus. It has more than 1,100 pediatric specialists focusing on 70 specialties in multiple locations and routinely provides care to more young people than any other Chicago-area hospital or medical center. The patient population represents a broad spectrum of socioeconomic status, ethnic background, and geographic distribution that ranges from the immediate Chicago area as well as a referral population throughout Illinois and several surrounding states.
