Chief Physicist - Radiation Oncology - Full Time - Days
As a Chief Physicist, you will provide technical and organization leadership within the section of Medical Physics, and is in charge of the overall physics and radiation safety program of the department. Responsible for the correct functioning of the radiation therapy equipment as well as assuring that their radiation output is in accordance with adopted calibration protocols, delivery of correct radiation dose to patients as per physician's prescription, maintaining current radiation beam data to be used in the calculations of absorbed dose, and adhering to basic rules for the safe use of radiation by employees and patients in the department. May assist with the standard daily medical physics activities. Teaches residents and outlines and carries out research activities and clinical/ technical projects.
Preferred Criteria
- PhD in basic physics or medical physics or related field
Required Criteria
- M.S. in physics, medical physics or related field
- If the advanced degree is in a related field, the candidate should have completed a fellowship/traineeship in medical physics from a hospital based program or an accredited medical physics residency program
- New York State Medical Physics License required by the Department of Education.
- Certification by the American Board of Radiology
- Physicists who are in the process of obtaining their New York State License through reciprocity, can be hired with their out of state License, but until either a Limited Permit or NYS License is obtained (must be within one year) employee may only engage in activities related to orientation, training and project work and cannot be involved in any treatment, testing, or calibration duties designated by the asterisks in the Essential Job Duties section of this job description
- Minimum of six (6) years of clinical experience in the practice of Radiation Oncology physics and (3) years of leadership experience (can be concurrent)
- Knowledge of Radiation Physics
- Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills
