The mission of Maryland Family Network (MFN) is to ensure that very young children have strong families, quality early learning environments, and a champion for their interests. We work in collaboration with public and private funders, community-based organizations, parents, and other individuals and agencies to support those who care for young children as families strive to reach their goals. Through two-generation programs that support parents to become economically self-sufficient, raise healthy, successful children, and find quality child care; through regional services that help child care professionals improve their practice; and through public policy advocacy of programs and policies that benefit families with young children, MFN strives to ensure that all Maryland children are cared for by adults who are skilled to raise them in environments that are conducive to growth and development.
Position Summary:
Maryland Family Network (MFN) is looking for a dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) who can lead the execution of MFN’s strategic vision and goals. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards, managing budget and financial matters, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence within the organization. We are seeking someone who has a strong combination of leadership, direction, and management skills, and who can play a key role in advancing the organization’s growth.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in managing and executing the strategic plans for the organization and has on-going strategic conversations with Executive Leadership Team. Translate the strategies into actionable plans and procedures.
- Oversee the financial management of MFN, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and auditing through collaboration with Financial Consulting Firm, Compass.
- Managing the relationship with external vendors and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. Acting as the repository for the keeper of all contracts for vendors, maintain a centralized database of all the agreements, terms, and conditions that MFN has entered into with various service providers, suppliers, and partners.
- Foster a highly inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and the well-being of team members.
- Oversee company operations and human capital, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members can thrive and that organizational goals are met.
- Analyze internal operations and identify areas for process enhancement.
- Ensures all legal and regulatory documents are filed, reported, audited and in compliance with laws and regulations for the organization.
- Overseeing the work of the contractual IT Consulting firm, including the organization’s annual technology budget; and supporting the Executive Director in negotiating the annual IT services contract.
- Assist the Executive Director in managing the organization’s governance infrastructure by maintaining a strong knowledge of its articles of incorporation, bylaws, Board procedures, and conflict of interest policies and nonprofit governance best practices; facilitating Board recruitment; staffing the Board of Directors; documenting Board decisions and other governance activities; and planning and directing preparations for quarterly Board meetings and Board committee meetings.
- Plan and direct an array of executive support activities, including administration and logistics coordination, information analysis and synthesis, and decision support while handling data and communication that are highly privileged and confidential.
- Review and approve expenditure documents, including check requests, expense reports, purchase orders, invoices, and receipts.
- Mentor staff and manage and enhance professional relationships with an array of vendors, partners, and other external parties.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Executive Director.
