Organization Overview
The Vermont Aging Network Consortium (VANC) is a nonprofit organization that provides critical capacity-building services to the aging network in Vermont. As a new network, and lead entity the VANC will serve as a model for integration within the home and community based health care delivery arena, focusing on aging services. The VANC is seeking a COO/CFO to lead both financial and operational systems for the Network as it leverages capacity among the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) affiliates. The VANC has been funded by the local AAA affiliate(s), however, moving forward, it seeks to enlist more support (including contracts) from foundations, and businesses, payers, health care entities and by partnering with similar community-based organizations as the network matures. The transition from one-source to multi-source funding will require planning, networking and execution skills.
The Opportunity
The organization seeks a skilled Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer (COO/CFO) with a track- record of transformational leadership and proven results.
Working from a hybrid work environment the COO/CFO is responsible for aligning and executing VANC’s strategic initiatives and internal processes with success to ensure that the Network can support its goals for strategic direction and growth, with high productivity and optimism about meeting future deliverables. Remote work may be a possibility with travel to Vermont on a routine schedule to be determined.
The COO/CFO will be unrelenting about promoting and implementing processes and procedures that improve the Network’s financial health, overall efficiency and value proposition.
Reporting Relationships:
The CFO/COO reports to the Network Board of Directors. All prospective VANC staff report first to the COO/CFO. As such, the COO/CFO serves as the liaison between staff and the VANC governance structure. Strong relationships between the COO/CFO at the Network and the executive leadership team members at affiliate organizations is a core competency and expectation of this role.
The Ideal Candidate
The COO/CFO will work to implement strategy and vision, build out the deliverables and the Vermont Aging Network Consortium culture, and serves as a key member of the system’s leadership team. The COO/CFO will work systematically to meet VANC goals by addressing key staffing, process and infrastructure issues and plans.
The COO/CFO will translate the Network priorities and direction into day-to-day standard operating procedures to demonstrate efficiencies, cost savings and value to the Affiliates. He or she will monitor and assess ongoing strategies, conduct midcourse corrections and keep the network Board and the executive team informed of Network operations, including how its finances, technology, and staffing relate to important goals. The COO/CFO will oversee hiring, prepare and finalize budgets and forecasts, and will play a formative role in building the culture of the Network around community services, accountability and results. The COO/CFO provides oversight for the training, mentoring and capacity building at the Network. He or she will be an internal advocate for efficiency, productivity and professional development.
Core Responsibilities
The COO/CFO will:
- Serve as the senior leader for the network entity.
- Actively participate in the strategic planning process at the Network;
- Implement, with the support of the Board and affiliate executives, the strategic plans and its’ deliverables, based on all available data;
- Oversee all daily operations and reports directly to the Board, ensuring that all business operations run smoothly and efficiently.
- Establishes productive working relationships between the Executive Leadership Team at affiliate locations, and the prospective network staff to ensure that the VANC operates profitably and productively.
- Provide oversight for the VANC budget, development and external relations activities;
- Build and advance high-performing teams at the network and play an active role in attracting, retaining and developing a best-in-class staff;
- Advance/ implement shared savings programs as identified in the strategic work plan;
- Identify and implement cost-effective ways to deliver state-of-the-art programs to clients through new contracts with payers or health care entities;
- Participate in identifying and cultivating corporate, individual and foundation sponsors;
- Cultivate excellent relationships with local media; provide oversight for the Network’s presence in the social media;
- Work collaboratively with the Board to ensure goals are reflected in day-to-day management;
- Inform the Board regularly of internal organization matters, including relevant staffing, funding and program success and priorities; and
- Serve as a public representative of the VANC, keeping the VANC current and an active participant in regional and community events.
- Key Credentials and Personal Qualities
- Master Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Care Administration or its equivalent.
- 8-10 years successful senior/executive leadership experience at a social impact or health care related organization.
- Background of success in process improvement, change leadership and change management.
- Background in health care law, contracting and business development preferred.
- Commitment to results; "can-do" mindset with emphasis on accountability and positive outcomes.
- Motivational and aspirational with a focus on staff and leadership development.
- Previous leadership experience in similar Network operations model a plus.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Sense of humor, integrity, impeccable work ethic.
