Job description

The Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) department is seeking a Chief of Staff who will provide leadership, operational guidance, and administrative oversight to the department. This position will provide right-hand support to the Chief of CARE and directly oversee the Community Response, Communications, and Human Resource divisions. Your work will be critical in fostering an environment where the department can continue to pursue the vision of making Seattle safer. You will provide strategic leadership to all administrative, financial, and operational activities for the department, as well as provide oversight and guidance for critical leadership support to other divisions as necessary. You will lead several teams while managing the operations budget for the department. Finally, you will act as a trusted advisor to the department director and develop and drive major goals, objectives, and key results to support broad functional objectives, both within CARE and across the City.

  • Provide right-hand support and assistance to the Chief of CARE to maintain CARE's mission, vision, and values. Will act on behalf of the Chief to answer inquiries, address day-to-day operations, and evaluate department risk factors when making critical business decisions.
  • In partnership with the CARE leadership team, develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the department's goals, and anticipate risks as the department fulfills its mission.
  • Manage the CARE leadership team and set key performance indicators to measure and improve department performance. Identify areas of improvement across the organization and make actionable recommendations to improve service delivery to the Chief of CARE.
  • Oversee fiscal management, budget planning, staffing, and performance metric analysis.
  • Assume oversight and track progression for assigned departmental projects and efforts.
  • Provide oversight for other divisions or business unitsof the CARE department as needed on a permanent or temporary basis to maintain and ensure the smooth and continued operation of the department, including planning, management, and direction of a department/unit and recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of personnel.
  • Perform other duties as needed to ensure that the goals and objectives for CARE operations and services are achieved.
  • Regular office hours are Monday-Friday, but evening, weekend, and holiday in-person work are required to fulfill the duties of this position.

Specifically, you'll be prepared to take on this role if you have:
Experience in:
  • Supporting team success within a large, complex, and publicly accountable organization.
  • Supervising, mentoring and coaching managers, supervisors and employees in a unionized workplace.
  • Developing and implementing departments budgets, strategies, policies, and priorities in alignments with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Writing, public speaking, and presenting information to diverse groups of constituents.
  • Excellent organizational skills including ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Identifying and managing highly sensitive matters, both internally and externally.
  • Building respectful and collaborative relationships with people at all levels of an organization.

The full salary range for this position is $56.58 - $93.34 per hour.
