Role:
  • The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is a strategic, executive, leadership role responsible for driving balanced loan growth and market share, in alignment with the strategic priorities of the credit union. Innovating into the future, through strong collaboration and partnerships, is a key driver of success. The CLO is responsible for the lending lifecycle from sales through servicing, including establishing goals, metrics and balanced incentive plans. The role is responsible for developing the lending vision and executing the strategy from current state to future state with inspirational leadership.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • While meeting the service standards for the credit union, oversee and lead all aspects of credit union lending including consumer, indirect, mortgage and commercial lines; manage staff who plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s lending functions. Participate in the development of credit union and department goals ensuring loan products, processes, incentives and compliance measures are in place. Provide ongoing evaluation of lending products and programs; monitor delinquency; evaluate risks and direct efforts for mitigation as needed or directed. Recommend and implement changes to products, processes or incentives as needed.
  • Align lending strategies with organizational priorities. Participate in open communication and collaboration with Executive team members. Provide lending expertise as needed for internal objectives and or external efforts within the communities we serve.
  • Stay abreast of lending and market trends for the best positioning of the credit union. Maintain knowledge of laws and regulations that govern lending processes. Ensure all lending activities are compliant with applicable laws and regulations revising credit union polices and /or processes as necessary.
  • Approve department budgets and ensure activities work within the budget approved. Evaluate staffing, structure, processes, efficiency and productivity as it relates to cost and service to members.
  • Direct personnel activities including oversight of job assignments, staff training and development, performance appraisals, compensation reviews, promotions and transfers. Focus on coaching and development of staff for current and future strength of the lending areas.
  • Produce and review management control reports and compare actual results to planned budget projections. Provide board reports as required or requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:
  • To deliver high quality member service by following credit union service standards.
  • To provide friendly, professional and accurate service and support to all members and coworkers and achieve high ratings for Service Excellence.
  • To produce the department's budgeted loan volume (dollars and/or numbers).
  • To ensure that all approved loans comply with established policies and regulations.
  • To complete performance reviews within the prescribed time frame.
  • To maintain knowledge of all lending products and rates, both within the credit union and from the industry overall.
  • To hire, direct and motivate a highly qualified staff sufficient to meet the daily operational needs of the department.
  • To maintain a professional work environment, promote teamwork, build respect among coworkers and present a businesslike appearance.
  • To follow all security policies and procedures and report discrepancies or suspicious activity to manager immediately.

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience
Ten years to fifteen years of similar or related experience
Education
(1) A master's degree, or (2) a bachelor's degree plus professional certification (e.g., CPA).
Interpersonal Skills
Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.
Other Skills
1. Knowledge of consumer, first and second mortgage residential real estate lending, commercial lending and collection activities.
2. Must have working knowledge of regulations affecting all areas of lending.
3. Must have good communication and supervisory skills.
4. Must have working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software; be able to use PC and general office equipment.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and on occasion lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
