Overview:

Due to retirement, we are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reporting directly to the CEO. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving strategic and operational direction through a respectful, constructive, collaborative, and energetic style, guided by the Mission and Values of the Firm. This position provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the Firm has the proper financial, technical, administrative, and operational systems and capabilities to support its continued growth and prosperity. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors to both develop and support the Firm’s strategic objectives and goals. This hydrid or office-based role be can be in Portland ME, Bangor ME, Manchester NH, or Waltham MA.

Responsibilities:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO), as part of the Firm’s Senior Leadership Team, is responsible for the strategic management and guidance of BerryDunn’s Administrative Team, which includes the Finance and Accounting, Information Technology, and Facilities and Administration departments, all dedicated to bringing business-building capabilities and solutions to the Firm and protecting Firm resources through thoughtful stewardship. The CFO develops, implements, and aligns financial, technical, and administrative action plans with business goals, serving as a valued and trusted strategic partner of the Senior Leadership Team and the associated business units and departments for which it is responsible. The CFO’s specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors in the development, deployment and execution of Firm governance, strategic plans, and initiatives.
  • Leading the Finance and Accounting, Information Technology, and Facilities and Administration departments, building their capabilities and aligning them to the Mission, Values, Vision and Strategic Plan of the Firm.
  • Developing a high-performance team; fostering a continuously improving, results-oriented environment.
  • Planning and overseeing the development of the Firm’s operating budgets, financial/cash-flow forecasts, and capital spending plans, and guiding management decision-making through effective analysis, forecasting, and reporting of financial performance and projections.
  • Overseeing and administering all Firm treasury functions, including accounts receivable management, purchasing and procurement, and all banking relationships.
  • Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of technology solutions that empower employees to securely work from any location, collaborate, share knowledge, and easily find services, information and tools necessary to most effectively accomplish their work.
  • Providing executive-level sponsorship and oversight of a multi-year ERP system implementation.
  • Coordinating and negotiating all Firm finance and risk insurance coverages.
  • Contributing to all aspects of Mergers and Acquisition (M&A) activities, from business case development and due diligence through closing and integration activities.
  • Overseeing facility management, including new office openings, administration of all lease agreements, space planning and management, furniture and equipment purchasing, and emergency preparedness.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree with a minimum of 15 years of executive-level Operations/Financial management experience overseeing Finance/Accounting, Information Technology and related administrative functions.
  • Experience leading large teams of geographically dispersed direct/indirect reports with multiple work arrangements including in office, hybrid and virtual.
  • A thorough understanding of GAAP and effective internal controls.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage large, enterprise-wide projects and initiatives.
  • A strong business mindset, preferably with experience in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, coaching, and listening skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization (both verbally and in writing).
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to guide management thinking
  • Experience implementing enterprise resources planning (ERP) systems. Preferred experience with NetSuite.
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems and Security.
  • Ability to develop strong, trusting relationships within direct/indirect reports and the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, coach, mentor and develop employees, and drive positive employee engagement with direct/indirect reports.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and to work on various projects simultaneously, requiring strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A broad range of business knowledge and leadership skills, including:
  • Vigilance in scanning the external environment to anticipate business threats and opportunities.
  • Strategic thinking skills to work with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to set direction to meet tomorrow’s demographic landscape.
  • Cross-functional business understanding with a Profit and Loss (P&L) and value-add orientation.
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively implement a broad range of activities, learning, continually improving and quickly moving forward after both successes and failures.
  • Financial acumen to broadly balance resources and understand the financial implications and tradeoffs of investments in every aspect of the business.
  • Technological savvy to drive efficiencies and to engage the organization through innovations in technology solutions.
  • A risk management perspective with regard to systems, processes, and people.
  • Taking a broad view; finding meaningful connections; using both logic and intuition to define problems and solutions.
  • Ability to effectively contribute to discussion and decision-making at the board and executive leadership levels of the organization.
  • Legal literacy to help ensure a culture of compliance and integrity at every level of the organization and across the firm.
  • Operational ability to ensure that the transactional aspects of each department are well executed in a world of fast-moving and changing expectations across the business environment.
Compensation Details:
The base salary range targeted for this role is $200,000 - $250,000 and is bonus eligible. The salary range represents BerryDunn’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. If an applicant possesses experience, education, or other qualifications in excess of the minimum requirements for this posting, that applicant is encouraged to apply, and a final salary range may then be based on those additional qualifications; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, years of experience, depth of experience, seniority, merit, education, training, amount of travel, and other relevant business considerations.
