POSITION PURPOSE:
Reporting to the President and CEO, the CFO is a key member of the Company leadership team and is responsible for overseeing and continually improving company-wide financial strategies, operations, and compliance.
Strategic Leadership:
  • Participate in strategic decision-making and propose improvement initiatives
  • Direct planning and budget development to support company financial goals
  • Develop pricing models and recommend best business practices for the Company; set sales margin benchmarks that maximize company profitability
  • Create, establish, and direct the execution of financial policies to support overall company policies and objectives
  • Lead cost-reduction efforts that enable the Company to meet net operating income goals
  • Model and interpret the financial impact of growth opportunities and company initiatives
  • Support management decision-making with timely, accurate, and actionable financial information
  • Maintain and improve relationships with banks, ensuring compliance with bank covenants
  • Live by Highway’s values; advance and support a culture of leadership, responsibility, accountability, continual improvement, and fun among all employees
Financial Operations:
  • Oversee financial operations including expense, cost, and margin control, financial reporting and forecasting, monitoring bank covenants, audit and tax management, cost/benefit analysis, legal compliance, and floor plan management
  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and empower high-performing finance and accounting teams to achieve company goals; measure team member’s success on an ongoing basis and coach/take corrective action as necessary; execute a consistent performance management process with employees including quarterly reviews and annual goal setting
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances
  • Maximize return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities and maintaining relationships with the investment community
  • Produce and validate a monthly financial reporting package; provide analysis to CEO and leadership team during monthly financial review meetings
  • Utilize company systems to analyze data and propose and implement positive changes
  • Prepare schedules for auditors for the annual review and tax return preparation
  • Track performance and cost metrics for all locations
  • Continually improve knowledge through educational opportunities, reading publications, and participating in professional networks and organizations
  • Understand legal issues affecting the industry and ensure that the Company complies with all financial regulatory requirements, including recordkeeping, insurance coverage, and other financial laws
  • Monitor cash balances and forecasts, and maintain responsibility for debt and financing
  • Contribute to Highway’s overall success by performing additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field required; advanced degree and/or CPA required
  • Minimum ten (10) years in a financial management position required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience directly or indirectly involved in one or more industry segments related to the industries served by Highway Equipment Company, its customers, suppliers or competitors
  • In-depth knowledge of budgeting, sales, business development and strategic planning
  • Experience leading, building, and optimizing a team
  • Hands-on experience in due diligence with acquisitions and growth opportunities preferred
  • Must have the highest level of ethical standards and exercise exceptional judgment in all circumstances
  • Must be creative, imaginative, positive, and self-motivated
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills when facing financial and management challenges
  • Excellent computer and mathematic skills (Microsoft Office, CRM Software)
  • Must be highly creative, imaginative, positive, motivated and have the highest level of ethical standards
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and must be able to pass a background check
