Description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Academic Officer to provide strategic leadership in support of the College’s goals. The CFO serves as a member of the CEO’s Executive Cabinet and has primary responsibility for the College’s financial health through oversight, fiscal governance, and transformation. The CFO will oversee the financial and accounting operations, forecasting, information technology, and strategy functions of the College.
Responsibilities:
1. Serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership in providing input on financial and related matters.
2. Embraces the role as executive budget officer, overseeing the administration of the forecasting and budgeting program and determining allocation of resources for all programs and services.
3. Maintains and advocates strong fiscal governance with the highest level of compliance, integrity, and transparency in all areas.
4. Develops and monitors a mature internal control environment supported with key controls specifically related to SOX compliance.
5. Collaborates with the CEO and other executive leadership, developing and recommending long and short-term goals and objectives, organizational structure, and staffing complement.
6. Oversees fiscal responsibility and a comprehensive review of Galen’s academic programs.
7. Provides oversight of vendor management and procurement.
8. Contributes to the development of and provides leadership in the implementation of a three-year strategic plan for the College.
9. Develops and leads the Finance Department and the collaboration with other departments to provide timely, accurate, and positive operating results. Such results will be communicated verbally and written with quality deliverables to the College’s executive management, Board of Directors, and parent entities.
10. Manage relationships with external auditor and other key finance-related third-party consultants and firms.
11. Consult with and advise the members of the Board of Directors on the review and approval of the annual operating budget, strategic plan, and administrative functions.
12. Oversee the administration and compliance of all federal, state, and local student aid programs.
13. Oversee all capital projects and the physical infrastructure for the College to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
14. Establish and maintain relationships with Main Campus leaders, facilitating communication between Main Campus and branch campus leaders as it relates to all financial matters.
15. Perform related duties as assigned or delegated by the Board or CEO.
Position Requirements:
Education: Accounting and/or Finance degree; CPA/MBA preferred.
Experience: 15 years of accounting/finance experience required, preferably in higher education or healthcare.
Skills/Competencies: Evidence of progressively responsible leadership experience in accounting and finance. Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, student financial aid, and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards financial reporting requirements. Knowledge of college educational philosophy and vision and top administrative practices and procedures. Ability to work independently and to make decisions based on Board policies. Communicate effectively in establishing an environment of collaboration, knowledge share, and accountability. Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment: Travel is required.
