Chief Financial Officer
Role Profile
The CFO’s role at Tecnica Group is threefold: Oversee the organization’s financial activities, including leading, inspiring and motivating the finance and accounting team: serve in a proactive, strategic advisory role to the BU Directors, COO and CEO; serve as an active member of the North American Leadership team.
Beyond ensuring accuracy and timeliness of the essential financial functions of the Finance team, the CFO will play a proactive role in identifying trends, risks and opportunities that could affect the business. To fulfill this aspect of the role, the CFO will work closely with, and in support to, the Business Unit Directors and COO regarding activities such as forecasting, scenario planning, analysis of impact of sales and operational strategies, etc. Curiosity is critical in order to learn the peculiarities of each area of the business, leading to providing qualified perspective and guidance.
The CFO is a trusted advisor to the CEO and will provide essential insight into key strategic decisions under consideration. A mindset of “playing offense” in all aspects of the role is critical in order to anticipate risks and opportunities, as well as ensuring early preparation for future events or documents. The CFO will work closely with the Finance team at the parent company, ensuring timely and appropriate responses on behalf of the North American business.
In addition to leading the Finance team, the CFO will also serve on the North American Leadership Team. In this capacity, the CFO will present challenges, strategies, solutions, etc for his/her functional area of responsibility and, importantly, serve as a voice in guiding the overall strategy for North America. This includes adopting, adapting and implementing policies and practices for the benefit of the employees and organization.
Functional Areas of Responsibilities
Strategic
- Work with CEO to set corporate direction, and shape longer term vision for implementation
- Communicate internally and externally the direction of the company to all stakeholders
- Together with CEO, review on regular basis, company strategy, business conditions and shareholder expectations
- Define, refine business processes; establish system for employee involvement in the process
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities affecting the business or team
Operational
- Manage the resources (people and capital) of the corporation in line with strategic plans
- Lead and motivate Finance & Accounting team
- Review, assess and propose best practices and processes for the business
- Assure that corporate messages are fully, clearly and simply communicated throughout the organization
- Plan for contingency in staff and resources; advocate for succession plans for all key employees; monitor the status of these plans on a regular basis
- Manage the performance of the corporation via targets that translate to the divisional level; propose and/or assist in the development of the targets
- Benchmark performance targets and engage management in process of “correct targets”
- Develop and implement systems for monitoring and providing feedback on performance vs. targets
- Establish criteria for effective risk management and implement strategy to protect corporate assets
- Serve as point person for legal claims, including working with network of outside resources to minimize risk & cost
- Assist CEO in projects that fall outside the scope of the individual brands
Financial
- Coordinate timing and tools to ensure on-time and accurate submission of reporting to parent company
- Work with Tecnica Group executives to develop budgets & plans
- Assist CEO to manage the business according to the budgets and plans
- Manage the strategic banking relationships of Tecnica Group USA & Canada
- Manage the coordination of parent (SpA)/ subsidiary administration and financial matters
- Development of capital budgets in conjunction with division planning
- Oversee all legal requirements involved in sales tax, corporate tax, and nexus areas.
- Consistently meet or beat reporting deadlines
- Prepare Board financial documents and presentations
- Manage legal and administrative aspects of Board governance
- Develop deep knowledge of ERP and Insights platforms
Management and Leadership
- Conduct business with the absolute integrity and the highest professional standards
- Assume leadership responsibilities and decision making for the corporation in the absence of the CEO
- Serve as Board Member and/or Participant, Tecnica Group USA and Groupe Tecnica Canada Inc
Preferred Background:
- Degree in business; accounting or related fields; advanced degree preferred
- Operational experience in businesses >$50 mio
- Experience working in/with Canadian business
- Experience with ERP systems, conversions, software implementation projects
- Canadian Accounting & Operations (Canadian GAAP, Culture, Language, Tax & Legal Areas)
- Experience with SAP
- Experience and understanding of cross border areas (import areas, tax areas, compliance and legal areas.)
- Experience in compliance areas associated with consumer products, such as Product Recalls, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), California Prop 65, CPSIA, etc.
- Experience working with foreign parent companies and investors
