Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Job Description

The CFO is responsible for being an influential leader of Bethesda Home by working collaboratively with other senior management team members and others with specific responsibilities for leading and managing the business operations and planning of the organization in a way that is fully integrated with health care, nursing home, assisted living, marketing, independent living, resident life, spiritual life, staff development and advancement. The CFO works cooperatively and respectfully with staff, residents, coworkers, families, visitors and volunteers to create a positive and pleasant environment in the home. This may involve direct problem solving, conflict resolution and ensuring that the needs and desires of residents are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

Finance Operations

Develop strategies for the implementation of new initiatives that enhance overall effectiveness of Bethesda's budget program

Develop integrated institutional budget building and management process

Assure regulatory compliance by appropriate record keeping and by maintaining appropriate files to document compliance

Oversee strategic and financial operations planning for Bethesda Home, including financial and operational modeling (basis for program and overall campus development)

Capital structure management and strategic capital planning (debt policy and procedures, important organizational benchmarking, etc.)

Assist in areas of resident recruitment, and institutional advancement in setting admission targets, establishing marketing themes and approaches, designing publicity strategies and implementation of these initiatives

Assist with the engagement and management of professional staff and consultants for the organization in connection with special project development

As part of Bethesda's senior management team identify longer term operational strategies for Bethesda in areas of program development, broadening Bethesda's base, resident profile and census, and special projects

Assess the merits of consortia opportunities with sister organizations (PHA, MHS Alliance, LeadingAge Kansas, etc.)

Lead the senior executive team in identifying key performance benchmarks and developing management systems and reports that will assist the team in assessing, on an ongoing basis, Bethesda's performance and its financial and programming health; assist in developing a collaborative relationship with the Mennonite Bethesda Society board of trustees on performance monitoring

Oversees Payroll

COMMUNITY/STAFF RELATIONS

Build, lead, and motivate staff

Appropriately represent Bethesda Home when in the community both personally and/or professionally

Possesses strong assessment skills, including good insights into resident preferences and needs. Demonstrates strong communication and relationship building skills with residents, and is able to explain residents’ needs to others as needed for resident advocacy.

OTHER DUTIES

Serves on the Management Team.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience is required, but 3-5 years is preferred. Health Care experience is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting

Skills: Enthusiasm, courtesy, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with others to achieve desired outcomes

* Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

* Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

* Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

* Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

* Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel and support agencies.

* Must meet the general health requirements set forth by this facility.

* Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

* Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.

* Requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, and bending.

* May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
