Job description

Hotel Equities, a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company, is currently searching for a remarkable Chief Engineerfor the Hilton in Harrisburg, PA.

GENERAL PURPOSE


Develop, implement and manage emergency programs for the operation and maintenance of all equipment and physical structures and landscaping in compliance with corporate/franchise standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and employees, to ensure optimum operations, minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction.


Position is responsible for the short- and long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the engineering division. Recommends the department's budget and capital expenditures and manages expenses within approved budget constraints.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Supervise the ambassadors in the division to attract, retain and motivate the staff; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline and terminate, as appropriate.


Supervise maintenance operations to include refrigeration, preventative maintenance of small building systems and essential maintenance equipment, swimming pool, lighting, kitchen equipment, flooring and all general repairs.


Aid and instruct direct reports in scheduling of work, ordering materials and completing assignments by specified dates.


Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department's budget capital expenditure plan, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and management's expectations.


Develop, implement and manage a maintenance program and negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel, the grounds and all of the equipment in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, managers and employees to protect the asset and maintain the property in first class condition.


Develop, implement and direct all Emergency Programs; ensure all equipment is maintained, conduct inspections and drills, ensure compliance with all codes and regulations, train all employees and maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment which protects the asset, guests and employees.


Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.


Coordinate renovation bidding, define the cost and scope of the project, and oversee the general contractor and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed for minimal cost.


Responsible for the on-going and critical hotel room reconditioning process.


Responsible for controlling inventories, purchases, and payroll in all supervised areas to ensure they meet the budgeted guidelines.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES


Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned, ensuring that all are completed according to specifications and completed on time. Participate in task forces and committees as requested.


Due to business needs, this position may be required to work varying schedules, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.


Regular attendance, as determined by management, is essential to the successful performance of this position.


Compliance with company rules and regulations is a condition of employment for the safe and efficient operation of facilities.


Participation in a rotational "Manager On Duty" Program, supervising the property staff and all other aspects of day to day routine operations in the absence of the General Manager.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge


Requires advanced knowledge of building management/engineering. May require considerable working knowledge of other major areas in the hotel and the skill to integrate and communicate that information.


Requires analyzing activities and/or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to arrive at logical conclusions.


Requires management skills, and ability to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.


Requires the ability to react quickly in emergency situations and make decisions that may involve a great amount of money or the safety of others.


Requires mathematical skills sufficient to be able to compute ratio and proportion, and percentages, calculate surface volumes, weights and measures.


Skills


Excellent hearing required to communicate with management and staff.


Excellent vision required to visually check hotel premises.


Excellent speech communication skills required to communicate with management and staff.


Excellent comprehension and literacy required for procedures, reports, budgets, instructions.


Computer, and handheld touch screen device, operating proficiency.


Physical Abilities


Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying of weights up to 50 lbs. and occasionally greater, for all hotel equipment and machinery. 50-75% of job function.


Frequent bending and/or kneeling throughout the day for repairs and maintenance of hotel property, equipment and machinery. 50% of job function.


Mobility - throughout the hotel, all floors, varying heights and distances. Use of ladders and lifts required at times. Generally 75-80% of job function. Climbing stairs up to approximately 210 steps 1% of each day.


Continuous standing required in varying degrees throughout the day.



Education/Formal Training


Specific vocation preparation including an occupationally significant combination of education, apprentice training, in-plant training, or essential experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the successful supervision of a team.


Experience


Minimum of five years of experience in building and/or facility maintenance, or in an appropriate construction industry position with progressive tasks and responsibilities as assigned, required. Prior Hotel Maintenance experience preferred.


Licenses or certifications


Forklift operators certificate, or ability to be certified to operate a forklift.


Valid driver's license required.
