The Sr. Manager Engineering & Maintenance (Chief Engineer) is responsible to research, create and/or develop engineering solutions to improve operational efficiency and productivity through the implementation of engineering projects targeting:
- Waste reduction
- Labor efficiency
- Mechanization operators' routine-tasks
- Production lines automation
- Identifying, developing, and implementing good engineering and operational practices
- Implement projects to improve operational efficiency
Position is responsible to support engineering and maintenance functions of the enterprise by training, coaching or acting as Chief Engineer and/or maintenance manager or project manager in any of the manufacturing sites located across the country.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Become a liaison with Global Engineering office on development engineering projects
- Influence strategy on developmental engineering projects
- Coordinate communication and actions with global engineering office
- Prevent failure on developmental projects
- It is imperative for this person to have Global Mindset while acting locally.
CAPEX
- Development, justification, & oversight of a companywide annual CAPEX plan.
- Develop business cases to implement capital projects for productivity and waste reduction
- Department head meetings to develop an annual CAPEX plan that defines individual department needs, compliance, return on investments and justification of.
- Oversight of the CAPEX plan to ensure successful completion of projects within critical timelines. Also includes regular updates to forecasted spend of CAPEX projects.
- Development of a 3yr forecasted CAPEX plan.
Process Engineering
- Identify new technologies and process/system improvements to increase efficiencies and return on investment.
- Industry shows, tech sessions, and vendor relationship development.
- Benchmark industry in other geographies to capture opportunities for improvement
- Evaluation of current process & procedures to identify improvements, projects, and plans to increase system efficiencies.
- Define standardized Operational Procedures for operating equipment
- Departmental KPI reviews, process evaluations and analysis.
- Provide innovative solutions to current processes and equipment, which give proprietary advantages to Bimbo QSR for the development of bread products.
- Responsible for process equipment design and layout.
- Manage large scale equipment installations.
Environmental
- Management of all environmental policies/requirements to ensure compliance of data management, record keeping, permit filing, policy updates and training.
- Interactions with all required government agencies & contractors to ensure successful audits and compliance.
Sustainability
- Oversight of all sustainability projects, policies, & requirements to ensure compliance of data management, record keeping, polices and training.
- Management of annual sustainability driven projects to reduce utility usage/cost & environmental footprint.
- Project development, oversight and reporting.
R&D
- Research for engineering solutions both inside and outside the baking industry to improve operational efficiency and productivity.
- Sales, Operations, & R&D support during developmental meetings and site visits.
- Develop engineering solutions working with suppliers and or engineering and bakery personnel.
Maintenance Department Management
- Department Budgets
- Development, review, & management of multi plant expense budgets.
- Facility, Process & Support Equipment Maintenance
- Oversight of plant maintenance departments to ensure proper facility and equipment maintenance, programs, policies & regulatory requirements.
- Multi plant Maintenance Synergies
- Program best practices and policies.
- Maintenance Development & Training
- Continued development of Maintenance Managers & Specialist
- Departmental compliance training
Education and Work History:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (required)
- Master's Degree in Engineering or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in project engineering in industrial baking environment
- Minimum 10 years of experience in developmental engineering projects
- Minimum 10 years of experience leading a maintenance organization
- A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted
- Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
