The Chief Development Officer/Executive Director, Philanthropy is responsible for the overall fundraising strategy to support achieving the Foundation's annual fundraising goal. The CDO/EDP achieves this by leading, motivating and directing the Foundation team of professional and support staff members in the areas of direct mail, special events, annual and major and corporate gifts and foundation grants. Utilizing reports and metrics, the CDO/EDP analyzes past performance to guide future decisions on strategy and goals, both programmatic and financial. Reporting to the President and the Foundation Board, the CDO/EDP is responsible for keeping the board committees active and the members engaged.

Serves as Chief Development Officer/Executive Director, Philanthropy reporting to the President and COO and the Foundation Board to support the organization's strategic and fundraising goals.

a.       Develop and implement Foundation Strategic Plan.

b.       Achieve annual fundraising goal.

c.       Meet industry standards for cost per dollar raised.

d.       Work with President/COO and Foundation Board to create a high performing fundraising organization.

e.       Develop strong working relationships with the Foundation Board.

f.        Present a recommendation for an annual budget for Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation.

g.       Oversees the Operations of Charitable fundraising functions and events.  

h.       Represent Wentworth-Douglass Hospital on the CDO Council of Mass General Brigham and collaborate with the Mass General Brigham Enterprise Development Office to ensure system continuity.

 

 

 

Oversees all administrative, financial and reporting activities of the Foundation.

a.       Creates annual and long-term fund development strategies in the areas of major and planned gifts, grant writing, annual giving, remembrance giving, special events, donor stewardship/recognition and special campaign initiatives.

Creates and implements strategies to engage directors, staff and other key constituencies in the activities of the Foundation.

 

a.       Maintains high visibility within WDH. Works closely with the President/COO and members of the WDH Executive Team to build a philanthropic culture at WDH.

b.       Establishes annual and long-term fund development priorities and effectively plans and implements fund development strategies.

       Coordinates fund development operations with other departments within WDH, such as finance and community relations.

d.       Serves as a major gift fundraiser for WDH. Manages a portfolio of major gift and planned giving prospects and directs planning, solicitation and follow-up involving these prospects.

e.       Serves as the lead staff in soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

f.        Recruits, organizes, trains and directs volunteers, advising them on effective major gift fundraising methods individually or in groups as appropriate.

g.       Serves as the primary WDH contact for individuals, corporations, foundations and various community groups as they relate to fund development activities.

h.       Develops proactive strategies to increase interaction and strengthen relationships with key groups.

i.      Participates in business associations and organizations and other appropriate community organizations to develop relationships with key constituents whose knowledge and advocacy is important to WDH's philanthropic mission.

    

Works to build a culture of philanthropy throughout the entire Wentworth-Douglass Hospital organization including:

a.       Active vendor engagement and development for signature event sponsorships

b.       Building organizational support for above average participation in the Employee Annual Fund

Bachelors Degree in Communications, Business or Liberal Arts Required, Masters Degree Preferred.

8-10 years progressive experience in Healthcare Fundraising

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Fundraising, major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, events, and e-philanthropy. Demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit and close six and seven figure gifts.

Track record of strategically and creatively building programs, pipelines, and volunteer networks to serve the interests of the organization while raising vital funds to support the mission.

Appreciation and sensitivity to the importance of the physician/patient relationship in the philanthropic process.

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively and appropriately represent the organization to potential donors, provide meaningful information that will encourage contributions, and represent the hospital's best interests.

Analytic ability to to address human resource, legal, financial, and administrative issues in an innovative, effective, and responsible way.

Experience in CRM management and ability to track and manage team's success through fundraising database
