Chief Communications Officer
The Communications Office at Johnson University invites applications for the position of Chief Communications Officer. Summary: The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) advances the mission of the University by creating, developing, and implementing the University’s internal and external communications and marketing strategies. The CCO leads a marketing and communications staff and coordinates across departments to enhance the University’s effectiveness, image, and position among churches, Christian higher education, alumni, prospective students, donors, and the campus community. The CCO reports to the president.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the marketing and communications staff by defining clear expectations, equipping and encouraging each staff member, maintaining a positive work environment, and coordinating the efforts of the team to accomplish the purposes of the team and the mission of the University.
- Develop and manage the communications and marketing budget.
- Coordinate the development and appearance of all the University's print and electronic materials in a way that protects the University’s brand and furthers the University’s mission.
- Work with the Creative Director to provide strategic direction for the University website and for all University publications and video projects, including the content, design, production, and distribution of materials such as the Johnson Magazine, annual report, view book, and other University marketing pieces.
- Create and maintain content for the University’s social media channels that is informative, appealing, and current.
- Work with the president to determine strategic fall and spring marketing campaigns.
- Work with Creative Director to plan and execute marketing campaigns including efforts such as digital advertising, OTT, billboards, geofencing, and print initiatives.
- Write marketing copy, articles, and other content as needed.
- Provide feedback as needed on all design and video projects.
- Provide final approval for all communications and marketing projects.
- Work with and counsel admissions, academic, and administrative leaders to identify, strategize for, and support external marketing initiatives for academic programs, campus events, and other public relations needs.
- Determine market research opportunities, work with external consultants to conduct and analyze market research, and track and evaluate communications-related analytics.
- Coordinate media interest in the University, ensure contact with target media, develop appropriate responses to media requests, and assist the president in representing the University to the media.
- Assist the president, board, and other senior leaders as needed to develop and disseminate special announcements and coordinate special projects.
- Stay informed of developments in marketing, communications, higher education, and related fields and use this information to help the University operate with initiative and innovation.
- Other tasks as assigned by the president.
Knowledge and Skills Requirement:
- A commitment to Johnson University’s mission, core values, and statement of faith.
- Substantial administrative experience.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to articulate and implement a vision for communications and marketing in keeping with Johnson University’s culture and mission.
- Demonstrated strategic leadership in planning, communication, and organization.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- A record of successful management of complex organizations and budgets.
- The ability to work effectively with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and university constituencies across a broad array of disciplines.
- The Christ-like character and proven competency to serve as a senior leader and to represent the University well.

Pay: $62,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
