Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Oversee the inspection and enforcement of residential and commercial buildings, mobile homes, and other structures within the city limits. Enforce and regulate the City's flood plain and sign ordinances. Investigate and mediate public safety and compliance issues with city, county and state officials and the general public. This is a safety sensitive position and you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

Supervise the activities of all building department employees
Resolve issues/questions with critical thinking and problem solving in regard to plan review, building inspections, occupancy certificates and personnel/staffing
Assist in mitigating dangerous buildings
Assist in coordinating flood plan management activities
Ensure compliance with City storm water management
ordinances and permits
Mediate with contractors, developers, citizens and other departments
Prepare variances for Zoning Board Association
Conduct field inspections, as necessary
Coordinate with inspectors to accomplish efficient, timely and quality inspections
Review and implement up to date building codes
Conduct and/or coordinate training sessions for assigned staff to ensure ongoing professional development
Prepare and administer department budget
Perform all other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Building Construction, Electrical Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Science or a related field. Applicable, related experience can substitute for a degree
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years professional field experience as a plumbing, electrical, building or mechanical inspections with building code enforcement responsibility and at least three (3) additional years of professional plan review experience in one or more of the trade areas for a government agency with building code enforcement responsibility. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in building inspection and plan review for a government agency and at least five (5) years of employee management experience.
Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted, or evaluated at the discretion of the City.
Required Licenses
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Must possess a valid Plumbing Inspectors License with Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners
Must possess current certifications as a Building Inspector and/or Plans Examiner from the International Code Council (ICC).
Preferred Licenses /Certifications:
Must possess current certification as a Certified Building Official from the International Code Council (ICC).
Depending on the needs of the City, incumbent may be required to obtain additional certifications.

Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in a sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds).
