Overview

Latinos for Education is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to join our organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CAO will spearhead the organization's development, marketing and communications functions. This role is responsible for overseeing all outward-facing initiatives aimed at expanding the institutional and individual donor base, enhancing membership growth, fostering brand visibility, and fortifying communications in harmony with the organizational mission, values, and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

Development & Fundraising Leadership

  • Strategize and lead the execution of an ambitious multi-year growth, targeting a robust revenue goal through diversified philanthropy and earned revenue streams
  • Cultivate, steward, and secure a diverse portfolio of over 20 individual and institutional donors, focusing on major and anchor funders to ensure sustained financial growth
  • Establish the development operations strategy, leveraging Salesforce for precise reporting, forecasting, and operational efficiency to meet ambitious revenue targets
  • In collaboration with the development team, provide strategic guidance to CEO and Executive Directors that foster high-impact donor relationships and a collaborative fundraising strategy aligned with revenue growth goals
  • Oversee and lead a compelling donor stewardship program, ensuring transparent and strategic communication with donors

Marketing & Communications Leadership

  • Collaborate with the VP of Marketing and Communications to architect a comprehensive marketing and communications plan
  • Oversee the marketing and communications operations strategy to effectively manage resources, utilizing key systems across the Marketing and Communications team (i.e. HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.)
  • Propel forward Latinos for Education's brand within the education sector, positioning the organization as a leading authority and thought leader on Latino education
  • Ensure integration of organizational initiatives and priorities into Marketing and Communications efforts (i.e. policy/advocacy, programs, EdCentro, innovation, etc.)
  • Serve as an organizational leader externally with various audiences
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop and execute a robust public relations plan to bolster the organization's visibility

Team Leadership & Organizational Culture Cultivation

  • Set the vision and define the priorities and goals of the External Affairs function
  • Drive the recruitment and management of a motivated team focused on bolstering external affairs functions, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture
  • Actively contribute to team sessions and retreats, cultivating an environment of innovation, synergy, and rapid adaptability
  • Directly manage and manage through layers the External Affairs team, nurturing a high-performing and cohesive unit

Executive Team Leadership & Strategic Partnerships

  • Serve as an Executive Leadership Team member to effectively lead the impact of Latinos for Education
  • Lead as a pivotal executive figure, contributing insights and implementing initiatives to drive organizational growth and strategic impact
  • Initiate and nurture key partnerships aligned with Latinos for Education's mission, expanding the organization's reach and influence within the rapidly evolving education landscape
  • Lead the Board of Directors' fundraising work under the direction of the CEO
Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for someone who will combine their passion for educational equity with strategic vision, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the issues affecting Latino communities. This combination of required and preferred qualifications will help ensure the Chief Advancement Officer can effectively lead the organization's external affairs efforts to transform outcomes for Latino students and their families.

Required:

  • 15+ years of general professional experience
  • 12+ years of comprehensive experience in communications, partnerships, and fundraising within dynamic settings
  • Ability to travel up to 20% annually
  • Demonstrated success in setting and achieving fundraising targets, showcasing adaptability in approaching a diverse range of opportunities and potential investors
  • A history of fostering impactful collaborations across diverse stakeholders in private, public, and nonprofit sectors, forging powerful partnerships to further organizational objectives
  • Outstanding success in building, implementing, and scaling an organization's brand and voice at both local and national levels
  • Versatile in both verbal and written communication, adept at building relationships, and fostering teamwork
  • Extensive experience in leading teams, with a strong commitment to cultivating talent and fostering growth within the team
  • Proven dedication to advancing efforts in the Latino community utilizing diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a track record of integrating these values into external affairs strategies and practices

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in related field(s)
  • Strong media relations skills, with experience managing press relationships, crisis communications, and leveraging media to amplify the organization's message and impact

Compensation Philosophy

Latinos for Education offers competitive industry rate salary bands to retain and grow talented individuals. We conduct a robust internal and external benchmarking process to ensure that our salaries are competitive.

The salary range for this role is commensurate with experience and is as follows:

  • Compensation Band: $220,000-250,000
  • Mid-Point: $235,000

The compensation band midpoint represents the market rate for a position, and a candidate who fully meets the qualifications and experience required for the role will generally be paid at this level. An offer made to a candidate that is above the midpoint would represent someone who is extraordinarily qualified.
