The Position: Chemical Process Operator - This entry level position has responsibilities of loading hopper cars and trucks including operation and maintenance of associated equipment, while acquiring necessary skills to advance through the Operations Progression System to a minimum of Tech Level 3 within the expected time required and accomplished while following SHE Excellence, 20 Principles, and Life Saving Rules.

What you will do:

• Perform production unit responsibilities to achieve scheduled production and daily activities.
• Load hopper cars and trucks, unload MMA and Mineral Oil trucks and railcars.
• Perform rail switches.
• Operate all associated equipment - e.g., bins/transfer systems, shuttle wagon, fork truck, etc.
• Assist preparation of equipment for maintenance, permit management, equipment lockout, and systems preparations.
• Assist in routine start-up and shutdown of reactors and systems.
• Perform minor maintenance.
• Monitor process performance (samples, levels, temperature, etc.) and respond accordingly.
• Comply with ISO standards and execute work in accordance with quality standards.
• Identify/troubleshoot related process issues and work toward solutions.
• Interact effectively in a team-oriented culture with multi-functional teams to achieve business results.
• Preserve high standards of housekeeping and organization.
• Communicate effectively and appropriately by radio, email, telephone, and face-to-face.

What you will bring:

• High School diploma/GED at a minimum
• College, college level, or technical certification preferred
• Chemical or manufacturing plant experience required
• Functional in computers, electronic mail, and software associated with role
• Mechanical aptitude
• Basic math skills
Basic understanding and respect of the importance of SHE concepts

Physical demands:

• Must be able to occasionally (1-33%) sit, turn valve/wrench handles, twist, perform repetitive motion, and reach at or below shoulder height.
• Must be able to frequently (33-66%) ascend and descend stairs, ascend and descend caged ladders to heights up to 85 feet, bend, stoop, kneel/crouch/crawl and utilize fine motor dexterity.
• Must be able to lift (pushing & pulling effort while stationary) 1-50 lbs. approximately 4 times a day, 11-20 lbs. approximately 4 times a day, 21-30 lbs. approximately 4 times a day and 41-50 lbs. approximately 4 times a day.
• Able to work 12-hour rotating shifts schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
• Must be able to work inside outside in all seasons
• Must be able to occasionally work around high noise levels over 85 Db, on wet or damp walking or work surfaces, operate vehicles, work with automated machinery and around chemicals.
• May require ½ face respirator, full face respirator and PAPR (Powered Air Purified Respirator) as needed.
• Must be able to infrequently do a confined space entry.
• Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, long sleeves, hearing protection, fall protection and other PPE as warranted.
• Must be able to complete and maintain Forklift Driving Certification.
• Must have the ability to see written documents, computer screens and to adjust focus.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound. Must perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.
• This position is considered a “safety critical job”, which requires continuous study (SOP’s, Training Manuals, procedural updates), for the employee to be always alert, able to concentrate on their task at hand, and not impaired by medications (prescription, non-prescription, illegal or legal substances including alcohol), or any other mental condition which adversely affects alertness, concentration, or judgment.

The Location: This opportunity is located in Decatur, Alabama, United States (US), only 25 miles from Huntsville, Alabama.
