Position Overview
The Production Technician is responsible for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all resin production at the Morganton site. The Production Technician is responsible for the safe operation of equipment, environmental compliance, quality control, inventory management, housekeeping, and maintenance within the resin department.
The Production Technician should be fully confident and able to demonstrate their technical and personal abilities and should be able to use their abilities to positively affect the personnel and plant around them on a daily basis. The Production Technician should be willing to play a larger role in "looking outward" and promoting positive change throughout the entire plant.
This document is a guide only. Based on the nature of the position, there will be some overlap with other positions. Contents may be modified as needed, with redefined expectations and accountability, based on exclusive management rights for the business.
Job Responsibilities
Safety
• Ensures that safe work practices are followed; ensures compliance with Hexion FPD Safety Manual, Hexion Standards, PSM regulations, and PPE matrix.
• Participates in safety audits, training, inspections, and PSM/PHA activities.
• Ensures that unsafe conditions are resolved in a timely manner.
• Ensures all incident management and emergency communications are completed. Willingness and ability to enter incident investigations into the system and to participate on the incident investigation teams (and others) for continuous improvement, and to prevent reoccurrences.
• Participate in emergency response activities and play a role in executing emergency preparedness drills.
• Ensures excellent housekeeping is maintained at all times, both personally and as a unit team. Understands that a clean plant is a safe plant.
• Demonstrates the ability to safely direct activities during resin unit maintenance and operational changes (including safe work and hot work permits, etc).
• Initiate Management of Change process by recognizing changes within the process that necessitate the Management of Change process and entering appropriate data into the Management of Change database.
• Willingness and ability to insure all assigned safety requirements are met on a monthly basis for review by the site's Safety Committee.
• Willingness to participate in the development of safety and environmental programs for site wide implementation as detailed in the Hexion corporate safety and environmental manuals.
Environmental Compliance
• Ensures environmental policies and practices are followed and that spills are properly reported and managed. Actively participate and promote the facility recycle programs.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the site water permit and discharge limits and assist in training of other employees.
Quality
• Participates in the investigation of quality incidents and takes action to prevent recurrence. Initiates and provides detailed information for NCRs.
• Ensures that manufacturing procedures are adequate and followed so product is produced in spec. and shipped to meet customer requirements.
• Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge of entire production process, including all testing equipment and equipment utilized.
Job Responsibilties
Production
• Works in a manner that reinforces the Hexion Core Principles and beliefs.
• Responsible for the efficient and reliable operation of the resin manufacturing processes.
• Rolls SAP production orders and PI sheets for daily production schedule; utilizes SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc as needed to perform job duties.
• Accurately records delay times and assists in batch cycle time optimization activities.
• Reliably and accurately maintains and troubleshoots daily log sheets and production abnormalities.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed to maintain business coverage.
• Willingness and flexibility to perform other duties when a production outage occurs to ensure productive value-added work continues despite no resin production.
• Effectively troubleshoots and solves production, operational, and quality issues.
• Demonstrates analytical insight and process knowledge in the ability to offer appropriate and timely corrective actions during production operation.
• Demonstrates ability to assist and train new associates as needed during their training period.
• Demonstrates a willingness and ability to generate new or update existing operating procedures.
• Demonstrates the willingness and courage to accept the responsibility for one's actions, act appropriately based upon the situation, and be accountable for the results.
• Independently completes day-to-day tasks with minimal supervision and to complete other special assignments, with an appropriate level of supervisory involvement.
• Demonstrates genuine concern and caring for the impact of one's decisions upon all of the others in the workplace.
• Demonstrates the desire and ability to implement processes, build ownership, and hold each other accountable.
• Promptly ensures reporting and resolution of process or mechanical variations or deviations.
• Ability and willingness to perform minor unit maintenance under qualified supervision/instruction.
• Demonstrates knowledge of SAP maintenance modules including the work notification process.
• Coordinates efforts with maintenance to ensure that equipment is kept in good operating condition with minimum downtime.
Leadership
• Works well with others; promotes attitude of continuous improvement.
• Effectively manages change in a positive way.
• Practices Hexion Core Values in daily activities and adheres to all Company polices and procedures.
• Willingness and ability to interact with site and corporate leadership during their shift.
• Observes all rules and company requirements whether leadership is present or not.
• Assists Lead Operators to direct shift activities of operating personnel, contractors, etc. during routine and abnormal operations if required.
Other
• Complete other tasks as assigned by Leadership
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Forklift Operator experience
  • Physical: Walking, driving, standing, lifting up to 55 pounds repeatedly, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering, talking, hearing, and seeing. Ability to enter confined spaces and wear a respirator.
  • Aptitudes: Must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles. Perform some arithmetic operations, possess eye-hand motor coordination and be able to operator a forklift.
  • Temperament: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities. Must be able to adapt to situations involving the interpretation of feelings, ideas, or facts; be able to influence people in the opinions, attitudes or judgments; and be able to generalize, evaluate, make decisions and perform repetitive work.
