Position Role Type:

Onsite

The Chemical Engineer position in the Materials & Process Engineering department will lead projects in the areas of aerospace materials obsolesce, special processes, chemical process validations, and RRCA investigations.  The position will provide critical support to production and be involved with new materials and processes to support emerging aerospace technologies.

Onsite:

  • The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at either Rockford, IL, or Windsor Locks, CT.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate on multidisciplinary engineering teams as the chemical/Materials Engineer for quality investigations.
  • Validate hardware and/or process conforms to related specification requirements, with an emphasis on surface finishing special processes.
  • Interpret specification requirements and communicate to suppliers as required.
  • Update and create standard work for validating special processes when required.
  • Work closely with the Materials Reach Specialist to test and develop new technologies related to surface finishing.
  • Training and skill development to support RRCA and process improvement activities to be provided.


Qualifications/Experience Needed: 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience 
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certified Electro-Finisher (CEF) accreditation from National Association of Surface Finishing.
  • Experience working with surface finishing processes such as Anodize, Chromate Conversion Coating, Hard Chromium, Cadmium plating, and other electroplating processes.
  • Experience working with aluminum, magnesium, and ferrous alloys, and their corrosion mechanisms and products.
  • Experience in technical communication with Suppliers and Customers.
  • Six-Sigma certification (or equivalent) and root cause analysis experience.
