UNIT SUMMARY:
ICU Step Down- HICU is a 40-bed ICU step down unit which takes care of patients needing close monitoring and frequent interventions. Our patients are stable but critically ill and can change in condition rapidly. Nurse to Patient Ratio is 1:4-6, based on acuity with support from Patient Care Techs. Each room is semi-private, and some rooms are equipped with telemetry monitoring. Our unit consists of patients requiring acute rehabilitation, support for chronic conditions and ventilator support.
We take care of a wide variety of complex medical patients with acute and chronic disorders including post cardiac arrest, pneumonia, sepsis, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, CVA acute rehabilitation and other respiratory, cardiac renal and GI/GU conditions. Patients on our unit have specialty equipment and devices including G-tubes, PICC lines, chest tubes, High flow Nasal Cannula, tracheostomies, mechanical ventilation. blood transfusions and non-titratable drips.
Our nurses will be trained in a fast-paced environment and will be ACLS certified to be able to provide care for the patient population. We have dedicated teams of providers and respiratory therapists that are on the unit to assist in the care of our patients. While HICU is critical and fast-paced, we have stellar teamwork. JOB SUMMARY:
Provides safe, age-appropriate patient care and functions as advisor, resource, and leader for other members of the patient care team. Charge Nurse II must consistently continue to meet the requirements and expectations for RN II on the clinical ladder.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college); requires knowledge of a specialized field
- American Heart Association BLS CPR required
- ACLS Preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Maryland Registered Nurse License
- EMR: Cerner, Alaris pumps
- Microsoft Office Suite, Basic computer skills
- Nursing Process skills based on MD Nurse Practice Act, Critical thinking skills, Medical terminology
