GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provide a collaborative and inclusive approach to pastoral care by ministering holistically to the spiritual needs of patients, their families, medical staff, and administration. Reports to the Supervisor of Spiritual Support Services.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop, implement, and appropriately document pastoral care plans for patients, family, and staff in cooperation with other members of the health care team to ensure effective pastoral services.
· Provide pastoral care and counseling to patients and their families on assigned Intensive Care Units, floors, ER, as well as covering for any chaplain who is not present. Each chaplain is expected to provide pastoral care to staff in crisis situations, personal and professional, or when thinking through ethical questions.
· Every Chaplain/Priest will participate as a member of the health care team by accompanying medical staff on patient rounds, attending patient care conferences, identifying for the medical and nursing staff the need for additional patient education, and consulting with staff in accepting or making referrals for care.
· Conduct and provide oversight for diverse faith-based worship services to meet patient needs, sacramental ministry, and end of life support as needed and appropriate.
· Provide or participate in educational programs for staff on ethical, spiritual, and emotional issues.
· Participates in department meetings and educational programs.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
PRIEST RELATED DUTIES:
- Conducts worship services and provides sacramental ministry as appropriate. Participates in emergency sacramental ministry on nights and weekends when needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Studies or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
· Endorsement from congregation leadership.
· Two basic and two advanced units of CPE toward certification within one year of hire. (Not required for a Priest)
· Certification preferred.
· One to two (1-2) years of experience in pastoral care ministry in a hospital and/or hospice care setting preferred.
