Baltimore, MD - University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) seeks a dynamic, accomplished, and visionary academic physician leader to serve as its next Chair, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (OB/GYN) and Chief of OB/GYN at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). This Chair will be an exceptional academic leader with a substantial record of clinical, research, teaching, and administrative achievements to lead the Department into the future. This is an outstanding position for an inspirational leader well versed in the academic missions to serve at one of the nation's top departments of OB/GYN.
UMSOM was established in 1807 and is the oldest public medical school in the country. In addition to its rich history, it is a leader in extramural research funding currently ranked #8 among all public medical schools in the country with an impressive $563 million in 2020.
The Department ofOB/GYN at the University of Maryland is ranked among the top 10 of all OB/GYN departments in the US in NIH funding, receiving over $6 million in 2020. The Department is comprised of 51 faculty members across six divisions with internationally known clinical programs, selective residency training and leading fellowship programs.
Qualifications
UMSOM seeks a leader who will be responsible for the growth and advancement of the clinical enterprise, research, scholarly activity and teaching excellence. The Chair will possess a high level of integrity; embrace inclusion and diversity; have a demonstrated record of successful recruiting; and the ability to inspire, manage, mentor and galvanize a diverse team. This leader will bring an understanding of clinical operations to guide the Department toward the future of patient-centered and accessible women's health care delivery. The Chair will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to complement a passion for excellence and achievement. Candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, be fellowship trained and possess board certification in OB/GYN.
The successful candidate is an individual who has a passion for discovery to improve care and have a desire to enhance systems and processes to maximize efficiency across the Department.
