As a Certified Welding Inspector this position involves performing shop inspections on fabricated steel products based on our quality control procedures and American Welding Society AWS DI.1 welding code. Fit-up, dimensional, galvanizing and paint inspections are required along with welding inspections.

Inspection reports and tracking is required for all work performed in written reports as well as computer spreadsheets. Excellent communication skills are required. Dimensional checks are done from the use of shop drawings which must be read and thoroughly understood.

Responsibilities

• Monitors welders for adherence to weld procedures
• Writes reports
• Administers weld test to new hires and current employees as needed
• Communicates to department supervisor and quality control manager on errors found
• Promptly creates and issues NCR’s AISC policy on all non-conforming issues
• Assists 3rd party inspectors in locating and inspecting projects
• Performs work in reasonable amount of time
• Performs work with minimal distraction to production and production process
• Can locate and interpret shop drawings
• Obey plant safety rules
• Performs visual inspection on welding and fabrication processes
• Preforms ultrasonic testing on complete penetration welds (if qualified)
• Calibrates UT and MT equipment as required by individual qualifications
• Must be capable of tracking production from initial process through coating and shipping
• Must be capable of tracking all inspections, quantities and qualities with approved and released shop drawings

Environment

Job requires outdoor work and indoor in all weather conditions with extreme temperatures. Majority of work is done indoors in a heated area.
