BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Responsible for preparing, tracking, and sterilizing equipment and instruments accurately and timely. Prepare operating room case carts, sterile trays, and supplies. Perform multiple tasks that assist in the daily operation of Sterile Processing and is responsible for customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Disassemble, clean, assemble and test instrumentation for proper functioning.
- Employees in a lead capacity Assist with teaching new hires and work as resource persons for other staff and other hospital units.
- Perform and participate in decontaminating, inspecting, cleaning, assembling, and packaging medical/surgical materials, including instruments and equipment, according to established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials.
- Prepare trays and specialty carts for designated areas according to prescribed procedures.
- Wrap and/or package items for specified areas according to procedures prescribed for those designated areas.
- Operate instrument tracking systems.
- Use knowledge of different sterilization materials and equipment to choose the appropriate material for sterilization processes.
- Assist in maintaining supply and materials inventory, including documenting usage, issuing, receiving, and recording as assigned.
- May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience as a surgical sterilization tech. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or surgical technologist program graduation may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification by HSPA within one (1) year of hire as a condition of continued employment in this job classification. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Completion of some college coursework. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
