Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta is looking for high spirited, fantastic PRN Certified Recreational Therapists  to join our team.  Recreational Therapists are expected to perform responsible, professional work in the evaluation and implementation of therapeutic recreation programs designed to increase, maintain or restore physical and mental health function as directed by the physician. The individual is responsible for

  • assisting patients in reaching their maximum performance levels in the areas of leisure, adaptive and recreational activities.
  • working with a team in the delivery of care and participates in educational experiences for interns.
  • providing orientation to recreation therapy for patients by conducting groups in recreation therapy and based on the population of the group.
  • taking the time to plan the activities in advance in order to allow for effective introduction, the activity and closure.
  • intervening effectively with patients who behave inappropriately or who are having difficulty coping, including crisis intervention.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation, recreation administration or an equivalent program from an accredited university. 

 

Experience: 1 year minimum

 

Licensure/Certifications: Board of Recreation Therapist Licensure and certified by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS) 

 

Technical/ Mechanical Requirements: Must be able to utilize sports and recreation equipment. Computer knowledge and able to utilize computer software programs including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB:

Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.

 

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 41 db loss @ Hz, and 3111 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Ability to communicate in writing in order to give written details in the form of treatment care plans, charting, documenting activities and CQI documentation. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.

 

Individual must be able to exert up to 21 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside or outside in normal temperature variations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS;

Generally works in a fluorescent lit, enclosed, non-smoking environment. Occasionally required to supervise clients outdoors on a daily, year-round basis during recreational activities. Possible job related hazards include lacerations and punctures from contaminated needles or sharp objects, infectious diseases, skin and eye irritation from cleaning agents, and human bites, scratches and/or saliva.
