POSITION SUMMARY:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implement Occupational Therapy programs as determined by the supervising occupational therapist (OT).
- Assist the OT in student evaluations as appropriate.
- Collect data on IEP goals and objectives and report data to supervising OT.
- Attend school team meetings, evaluation meetings, and IEP meetings when requested by the OT.
- Provide/recommend/fabricate adaptive devices or other equipment as directed by the OT.
- Provide training to students and school staff in the use or application of adaptive devices or other equipment as directed by the OT for the purpose of ensuring such devices are used safely and optimal benefits are achieved.
- Work in a team approach with other educational team members in planning, supporting and providing instruction
- Make referrals to the OT when appropriate.
- Maintain positive relationship skills with students, parents, and district staff.
- Maintain all required paperwork to ensure compliance.
- Maintain OT equipment and manage repairs as needed.
- Adhere to established District policies and procedures.
- May be assigned as clinical supervisor for assistant level students
- Experience/training in an itinerant /COTA service delivery model in an educational setting working with students with a variety of disabilities.
- Demonstration of organization and management skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of people in a wide range of settings.
- Demonstration of excellent communication skills with staff, students, and parents.
- Evidence of ability to work and related positively and effectively with staff, students, and parents.
- Commitment to continued learning and personal and professional growth.
- Evidence of success in functioning cooperatively and productively as a team member with demonstrated skills in communication problem solving and collaborative decision making.
- Willingness to work with building and district staff as a team member.
- Knowledge and experience in administering and interpreting a wide variety of diagnostic tools.
- Ability to use IEP computerized systems.
- Demonstrate the physical ability and stamina to provide /assist with one/two person lifts for lifting/transferring students, ages 3-21, who are not independent with transfers. 45 lbs or more as needed*.
- Able to efficiently manage therapy services, timelines and team responsibilities in multiple school sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Services and/or Building Administrator.
EDUCATION: Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Certified by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc., as designated by the initials C.O.T.A. State credential/licensure as required.
EXPERIENCE: Providing COTA services in public education or clinic-based services.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Valid WA State drivers license and appropriate insurance required. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date.
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is authorized by your supervisor and required to be effective in the position and to maintain certification.
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice fingerprint/Background Clearance
