UNM Taos anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Spring 2024 Semester in the Department of Nursing to teach and/or develop Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Lower Division Courses (100-200 Level).

Anticipated opening includes the following subject and course: 

CNA 101 - Nursing Assistant

This course prepares students to provide patient care in a home, health care center, or hospital under the supervision of a professional health care provider (RN). Prepares students for the NM Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation (Prometric) exam. 128 total clock hours; 96 hours lecture/skills lab; 32 hours clinical.

8.000 Credit hours

Faculty will be an integral part of a team approach to teaching with an IET instructional modality (Integrative Education and Training Model) and possess a current license to practice as a registered nurse/advanced practice nurse in New Mexico, or relevant compact licensure.  Candidate will be able to use the technology platforms at the university to enhance and deliver course work.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements.  Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.  Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the Director of Nursing.

Wages

Adjunct Faculty in the UNM-Taos are currently compensated on the basis of their credentials and credit hour course loads, as follows:   $902.38 to $1,022.70/credit based on education.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications to teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:

         Degree in the discipline or subfield; or

         Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield; or

 

         Minimum Qualifications to teach or develop courses in nurse aide training is governed by CFR 42 483.152:

         Registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience 

         Must have completed a course in teaching adults or have experience teaching
    adults or supervising nurse aides in residential care setting

         Current unencumbered New Mexico registered nurse license

Preferred Qualifications

1.       Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution

2.       Experience mentoring nursing aides in various healthcare settings

3.       A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as
    working with broadly diverse communities.
