- Patient Types:
- Long term care or Rehab
- No memory care unit
- Common diagnosis: Typical nursing home patients - stable, Dementia, long term care residents
- Comfort Care patients - Nurse would collaborate with MH Hospice RN's that come to the facility to see these residents - provide comfort care as needed
- No traches, vents, occasionally feeding tubes, occasional IV's, some catheter care
- Patient Ratios:
- Nurse - 1:25-30; 2 nurses per shift - could be an RN/LPN or LPN/LPN. Regulation is that there must be an RN in the building for 8 hrs every day; will have Med aide to help pass meds
- Medication aide - 1:25-30; 2 MA per shift
- CNA - 1:10; 5 CNA's per shift
- Required Certifications:
- RN: BLS
- LPN: BLS
- CNA: CNA certified
- Medication Aide: BLS; Med Aide Certified through the SD Board of Nursing, to pass medications
- Education Required:
- RN/LPN: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
- CNA/Med Aide: High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- Skills required:
- RN:
- Tube feeds, Ostomy care, dressing/wound care experience, phlebotomy, IV starts
- Ability to act as Charge RN
- LPN:
- Tube feeds, Ostomy care, dressing/wound care experience, phlebotomy, IV starts
- Medication Aide:
- verify the rights of medication administration and dish up and pass all of the medications unless they are controlled medications, the nurse has to administer those
- CNA:
- Will also answer call lights and assist residents with their activities of daily living as well in between passing medications and when needed (if certified).
- All position types:
- Team player, positive, competent, LTC experience is a plus
- Must be willing to be COVID tested 2x/week - this may change and will follow CMS guidelines
- Support on the Unit:
- Charge nurse: Supervisors take an on-call week. Attached to the hospital and clinic
- Hospitalist on call - provider will round on patients 2x/week
- Connected to ED for quick response
- OT
- Charting System: Point click care; also (Nurse Only) would use Epic to view information (EPIC care link)
- Floating: If yes, where?
- 2 nurse units, would work both sides
- Orientation: (facility and unit)
- 2 shifts for orientation (1 day on each unit) and whatever the education department is offering
- Scheduling:
- 12-hour variable - if contracted to Days will be on Days; if contracted to Nights will work Nights - but traveler needs to be open to switch shifts if needed
- Ex) if contracted to Days, they may need to switch to nights and that is the reason the contract says "Variable shifts"
- Weekend rotation: yes - minimally every other weekend, but may be asked to work more
- Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
- Holiday Expectations: Expected to work holidays, 2/4 major holidays
- Approval of time off? up to 7 days without approval, must extend contract if unable to work a full week; no PTO can be taken during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August)
